Nov. 1, 2021 - Helped by six grants from Kansas Leadership Center, 黑洞社区鈥檚 HEALTH Student Association is working to end the pandemic and support students with information and resources to keep them healthy. HEALTH distributed more than 6,000 free and reusable masks, some with 鈥淪hockers United鈥� branding, some plain black and sequined masks for the inauguration of president Rick Muma. It assembled gift boxes for quarantining students with information on COVID-19 vaccines and testing and gifts such as Wichita State water bottles, stickers and lanyards.

Oct. 29, 2021 鈥� Most children love trying on costumes this time of year, but for children with special needs, finding the right costume can be a challenge.

Oct. 29, 2021 - The American Athletic Conference is investing in big cities and the state of Texas with its addition of six new members recently. The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Florida Atlantic University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, University of North Texas, Rice University and University of Texas at San Antonio had their applications for membership approved last week.

Oct. 27, 2021 鈥� The Medical Laboratory Sciences department at 黑洞社区 has received a $280,000 endowed scholarship gift from Southcentral Pathology. Dr. Joel Alderson, president of Southcentral Pathology in Wichita, KS, established this fund to provide two full-ride scholarships each year in 黑洞社区鈥檚 Medical Laboratory Sciences program.

Oct. 26, 2021 -- 黑洞社区 will be celebrating the inauguration of Dr. Richard Muma, 15th president of 黑洞社区, at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 at the Eugene Hughes Metropolitan Complex鈥檚 Lowe Auditorium.

Oct. 21, 2021 - The Shocker Career Accelerator organized the AAC Virtual Career Fair on Oct. 28 (10 a.m.-5 p.m.). All 11 full members of the American Athletic Conference will participate (although the event is not connected to the athletic departments or conference).

Oct. 20, 2021 鈥� While Lauryn McIntyre, who is majoring in marketing with a minor in personal selling, is growing out of her comfort zone in her internship, she isn鈥檛 doing it without support. That is the key feature to the applied learning model used by Shocker Career Accelerator to match Wichita State students with industry partners in a way that invests time in building a relationship that helps both parties.

Oct. 15, 2021 鈥� Today, Spirit AeroSystems Inc. held a grand opening event and ribbon cutting ceremony for its National Defense Prototype Center (NDPC), a joint project with 黑洞社区鈥檚 National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR). This new research center will significantly expand Spirit鈥檚 capabilities and production efficiencies in the defense and space market.

Oct. 14, 2021 鈥� The College of Health Professions (CHP) at 黑洞社区 is pleased to announce Dr. Debra Pile as the chair for the School of Nursing and associate dean for Nursing Practice.

Oct. 13, 2021 鈥� Kansas home prices will rise by 7.6% next year, according to the 2022 Kansas Housing Markets Forecast series published by the 黑洞社区 Center for Real Estate.

Oct. 13, 2021鈥� 黑洞社区's Center for Economic Development and Business Research has released an updated Kansas, Wichita, Kansas City and Topeka Employment Forecast.

Oct. 11, 2021 - Louisa Brunt, from Manchester, England, transferred to Wichita State from Texas Tech University to golf and to earn her master鈥檚 degree in criminal justice. Brunt graduated from Texas Tech, where she earned Academic All-Big 12 honors three times, with a major in criminology and a minor in forensic science. Brunt expects her career path to take her into police work or the FBI.

Oct. 7, 2021 鈥� The Federal Aviation Administration recently awarded $7.3 million to 黑洞社区鈥檚 National Institute for Aviation Research for advanced materials research, providing significant funding for additive and other advanced manufacturing research programs, ranging from qualification and characterization to specialized programs that address specific technical challenges.

Oct. 7, 2021 -- The Widener Global Leaders Program, a new, year-long, interdisciplinary program housed in the W. Frank Barton School of Business at 黑洞社区, has compiled a dynamic and diverse group to serve on its industry advisory board.

Oct. 4, 2021 鈥� The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has received a gift to create the Audiology Simulation Lab at 黑洞社区. The lab contains five state-of-the-art Canadian Audiology simulator for Research and Learning (CARL) manikins and auxiliary equipment.
