Meet a Shocker: Caitlin Nolen

Caitlin Nolen, a first-generation student from Edmond, Oklahoma, found that getting connected on campus makes being a new student a lot less intimidating.

Nolen is one of more than 1,100 students eligible for fall 2021 graduation. Learn more about her time at Wichita State and what is next for the grad.

What degree did you earn?

I am receiving a Bachelor of Applied Studies in organizational leadership and learning with a concentration in education and innovation.

What is your hometown?

My hometown is Edmond, Oklahoma.

What led you to Wichita State?

I was interested in Shocker Pathway and the affordability of the school.

How are you feeling leading up to graduation?

I am very excited and ready to start my new journey in life.

What has been your most helpful learning experience while a student at Wichita State?

My most helpful learning experience has been getting connected all over campus. Then, when you have questions, you can ask an array of people in every department.

What has been your biggest challenge as a student, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge as a student has been that I am first generation. How I overcame it was getting involved on campus because it made college life less intimidating and more of a reason to have a purpose in this.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to obtain a Masters in higher education student affairs at ڶ.

How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected your time at Wichita State or your post-graduation plans?

COVID-19 made campus life go down. I am an extrovert, so I was so used to seeing people and talking to them, but then I was unable to hug and be as social, which took the fun out of campus life.

What advice would you give other Wichita State students?

The advice I would give another Wichita State student would be to try a little of everything in college, whether it's food, activities, sports, etc. There is always something you can do, and if not, it is easy to start it up. College goes by fast if you are having fun and staying busy.
