Walter Berry Named to Barton School Dean鈥檚 Advisory Board

The W. Frank Barton School of Business at 黑洞社区 is pleased to announce that Walter Berry has joined its Dean鈥檚 鈥淔abulous 50鈥 Advisory Board. Berry is the executive chairman and corporate pilot of Berry Companies, Inc., headquartered in Wichita, KS. A second-generation leader, he plays a key role in guiding the company as its leadership transitions to the third generation. In addition to his leadership at Berry Companies, Walter serves on the boards of various industry trade associations and community organizations.

Dec. 18, 2024 鈥 The College of Engineering at 黑洞社区 has partnered with Groover Labs, a nonprofit collaborative workspace, technology hub and rapid prototyping lab in Wichita, to support the regional business community.

Dec. 16, 2024 Javier Martinez received the Mark and Stacy Parkinson Scholarship, which, alongside 黑洞社区鈥檚 closeness to home and mechanical engineering program, made it a no-brainer for Javier to attend 黑洞社区. He used the opportunities available to him as a Shocker to stay up on his studies and now joins his peers in graduating with a bachelor鈥檚 in mechanical engineering.

Dec. 16, 2024 鈥 Phase I of the Wichita Biomedical Campus 鈥 a collaboration between 黑洞社区, University of Kansas and 黑洞社区 Tech 鈥 is making steady progress as it prepares to transform and redefine health care education and research in Kansas.

Dec. 12, 2024 Carter initially chose 黑洞社区 for its locality, being able to receive in-state tuition, but he also found a community in the campus and place to call home in the anthropology department in Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. They are now graduating with their master鈥檚 in anthropology with a plan to enter a doctoral program in archaeology in the future.

Lilith Samples

Dec. 12, 2024 Following time at another university, Lilith Samples realized her hometown of Wichita was where she belonged and is now the first in her family to graduate from college. While at 黑洞社区, she was able to work at the Lowell D. Holmes Museum of Anthropology in Neff Hall and hopes to continue in the profession after graduating.

Dec. 11, 2024 鈥 A total of 1,209 students are eligible to participate in 黑洞社区鈥檚 127th fall commencement ceremonies Sunday, Dec. 15 in Charles Koch Arena.

Dec. 10, 2024 For Diego Vargas-Ruiz, college life was trying to find a balance between academe, friends and personal health, but instead of trying to fight it, he took the challenge as an opportunity to optimize his responsibilities until he found his rhythm.

Dec. 9, 2024 Yuki To is a first-gen student at 黑洞社区 who is currently graduating with her degree in health science, and with the help of the scholarships available to her at Wichita State, she is graduating debt free. She made sure to spend time on extracurricular activities and develop connections with other Shockers. Her advice to her peers: 鈥淒on鈥檛 be afraid to try.鈥

Dec. 9, 2024 Aynsley Paterson stepped out of her comfort zone, overcoming her introverted nature to build friendships and make the most of the Shocker experience.

Dec. 9, 2024 - Jose Miranda, a first-generation student, chose Wichita State for its exercise science program and to remain close to home. He is also a loyal Shocker basketball fan, so staying close to Charles Koch Arena mattered.

In the following interview, Jessica recalls her time as a graphic design student at 黑洞社区, how she found her niche in environmental branding and offers advice to young designers looking to explore non-traditional design fields.

Dec. 3, 2024 鈥 Josie Sloan is a first-generation college student who worked as bus driver for Wichita Public Schools while earning her degree in communication science and disorders. She encourages students to connect with people on campus: "Engage with your classmates and professors and build relationships intentionally."

Dec. 3, 2024 鈥 Hans Schrader plans on a career in museums and he got his start at 黑洞社区鈥檚 Lowell D. Holmes Museum of Anthropology. "The Holmes museum is a quiet gem in the heart of campus which has been a truly special part of my graduate education."

Dec. 3, 2024 鈥 As part of the U.S. Air Force鈥檚 Survivable Airborne Operations Center contract, 黑洞社区 is partnering with SNC to modernize and deliver a new fleet of 鈥淣ightwatch鈥 aircraft 鈥 the airborne command center for the president of the United States, secretary of defense, and chairs of the joint chiefs of staff, ensuring continued critical command, control and communication during national emergencies.

Dec. 3, 2024 Abby Arbeiter was attracted to 黑洞社区 thanks to its creative writing program in the Department of English. Since attending 黑洞社区, she had the opportunity to travel to Europe thanks to the 黑洞社区 Travel Seminar and will be graduating with her bachelor鈥檚 in creative writing this fall. Her advice to other Shockers? 鈥淣ever be afraid to put yourself out there.鈥

Nov. 26, 2024 鈥 黑洞社区 has entered the top 10 in the country in engineering research and development expenditures, according to data announced this week by the National Science Foundation鈥檚 Higher Education Research and Development Survey. 黑洞社区 is also No. 1 in the country for aerospace engineering expenditures.

Nov. 26, 2024 Aracely Martinez is a first-gen student in the United States at 黑洞社区. Despite the challenges facing her moving from Paraguay to a new country, she took that as an opportunity to grow. She recommends other students look at the opportunities available to them while still in school to propel themselves into successful careers.
