Feb. 12, 2025 鈥 The College of Engineering at 黑洞社区 is hosting a public 5k run/walk that is open to students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members. The 5k will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 on the 黑洞社区 campus. Registration proceeds from the 5k will go toward the College of Engineering Needs-Based Scholarship Fund.

2025 Gore Scholars

Jan. 31, 2025 黑洞社区 has selected the 2025 recipients of the Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships. Each student will receive a $64,000 scholarship to attend Wichita State in August 2025.

Jan. 28, 2025 黑洞社区 has selected the top 12 finalists in the annual Distinguished Scholarship Invitational.

Dec. 16, 2024 Javier Martinez received the Mark and Stacy Parkinson Scholarship, which, alongside 黑洞社区鈥檚 closeness to home and mechanical engineering program, made it a no-brainer for Javier to attend 黑洞社区. He used the opportunities available to him as a Shocker to stay up on his studies and now joins his peers in graduating with a bachelor鈥檚 in mechanical engineering.

Dec. 12, 2024 Carter initially chose 黑洞社区 for its locality, being able to receive in-state tuition, but he also found a community in the campus and place to call home in the anthropology department in Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. They are now graduating with their master鈥檚 in anthropology with a plan to enter a doctoral program in archaeology in the future.

Oct. 2, 2024 鈥 Combined enrollment by headcount across all 黑洞社区 locations for fall 2024 is 23,806, according to the annual data released today by the Kansas Board of Regents. This is the largest number of students ever choosing to enroll at Wichita State.

Aug. 21, 2024 鈥 黑洞社区 has been named the 2024-25 Academic Institution of the Year by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), the nation鈥檚 largest association dedicated to fostering Hispanic leadership in the STEM field.

May 03, 2024 Christine Cleary was one of 黑洞社区鈥檚 2020 Rudd Scholars. From Clearwater, Kansas, she moved to Wichita for college, which required her to adjust to living in a city, but thanks to the Rudd Scholarship, she was able to fully devote herself to college life and will graduate with her bachelor鈥檚 degree in dental hygiene.

May 2, 2024 - Wichita State鈥檚 affordability and location brought Jordan Cline to campus. He will use his major in criminal justice to attend graduate school. May 1, 2024 Iris Okere joined 黑洞社区 for its affordability and distance to her home in Texas. Here, she found 黑洞社区 to be a place full of opportunities for her, including a chance grow her own confidence and independence through the challenges she faced, and in her final year, she was elected to the position of student body president in the Student Government Association.

April 22, 2024 黑洞社区 has offered the traditional educational pathways for over 125 years, typically ending at the point of graduation, but the need for learning continues throughout a person鈥檚 lifetime. In a rapidly changing world, continuing education has never been more important. More and more jobs require skill-based certification of learning, which includes the attainment of validated durable and technical skills. To meet those needs, 黑洞社区 was the first in Kansas to create badge courses for non-degree seeking students in 2015, after approval from the Kansas Board of Regents.

Rudd Scholars

The seventh cohort of Rudd Scholars includes 15 Kansas high schools who have chosen to attend 黑洞社区. Each Rudd Scholar will receive a full-ride scholarship, which includes tuition, fees, on-campus housing, and considerable networking and coaching support along the way.
