Explanation Of Transcripts

  1. 黑洞社区 (黑洞社区) was founded as Fairmount College in 1895, and was operated by the Congregational Church until 1926, when it became the Municipal University of Wichita. It officially entered the state system of higher education in 1964. Wichita State is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission; specific academic programs also are accredited by various professional organizations.

  2. Each calendar year consists of two semesters and one summer session. A 鈥渃redit hour鈥 is a measure of graduate or undergraduate academic work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that reasonably approximates one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work for each week of instructional time for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester, or an equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time.

  3. All courses in which the student was still enrolled after the add/drop period are listed. Transfer work is listed by institution with full course details. Acceptance of credit does not necessarily mean that it counts toward a student鈥檚 degree program at 黑洞社区.

  4. Grading System

    • A = Excellent
    • B = Good
    • C = Satisfactory
    • D = Unsatisfactory
    • F or WF = Failure or Withdrawn Failing
    • P = Passing work (B, C, or D); credit given, no grade points
    • CR = Credit (A, B, or C); credit given; no grade points
    • NCR = No credit (D or F); no credit given; no grade points (does not necessarily imply failure)
    • S = Satisfactory (A, B, or C); credit given; no grade points
    • U = Unsatisfactory (D or F); no credit given; no grade points
    • W or WD = Withdrawn
    • AU = Audit
    • NGS = No grade submitted
    • CRE = Credit by examination or by credentials
    • IP = In-Progress; completion not required in one semester
    • I = Incomplete
    • BG = Badge (A, B, or C); credit given; no grade points
    • NBG = No Badge (D or F); no credit given; no grade points (does not necessarily imply failure)

P, CRE, CR, BG, and S hours (earned hours without grade points) do not count in computation of Grade Point Average (GPA) but are included with overall hours earned. Plus/minus grading began Fall 2009 - see 鈥淕rade Points鈥 below.

ACADEMIC STANDING: Academic Probation, Probation Continued, Academic Dismissal - reflects the academic regulations and standards of the institution.

  5. Grade Points and Grade Point Average

Grade points are assigned for each hour of work according to the grade attained as follows:

    Grade Points
    A 4.000 points
    A- 3.700 points
    B+ 3.300 points
    B 3.000 points
    B- 2.700 points
    C+ 2.300 points
    C 2.000 points
    C- 1.700 points
    D+ 1.300 points
    D 1.000 point
    D- 0.700 point
    F 0 points

AU, BG, NBG, I, IP, W, WD, WF, CRE, CR, NCR, S, U, P = No points

The GPA is computed by dividing the total number of credit points by the total number of semester hours completed for which regular letter grades (A, B, C, D, F) are assigned. GPA鈥檚 are calculated and applied to three decimal places (truncated) although only two decimal places print on the transcript.

  6. Z Grades and Repeats

Any hours where the grade is preceded by a 鈥淶鈥 do not count, in earned hours or GPA calculation.

REMARKS (R) COLUMN CODING - USUALLY FOR REPEATED COURSES:

E = This grade and hours are excluded from GPA calculations and earned hours.

I = This grade and hours are included in GPA calculations and earned hours.

A = This grade and hours are included in GPA calculations but not in earned hours.

  7. Totals

Three sets of totals are listed at the end of each record: 黑洞社区, Transfer, and Overall. Totals include only hours and grade points for coursework taken at the level indicated on the transcript.
