Captions at Wichita State
There are two main ways to get captioned videos and live video presentations captioned at Wichita State:
- Machine-created captions
- Human-created captions
If you require captions for an accommodation and you are encountering video or audio recordings without captions or transcripts, please contact the Office of Disability Services for assistance. This page will help you better understand and access captions when they are available.
- Captions in Panopto: All Panopto videos have machine-created captions available, and at least during until the end of spring, 2022, all Panopto videos can also be human captioned. If you are being asked to view Panopto videos and no captions are available, please speak with your instructor and direct them to the training pages HERE for machine captioning and HERE for human captioning if they are unsure how to access captions in Panopto.
- Captions on a YouTube video created by your instructor: If your instructor created a video in YouTube and it does not have captions, they can add captions in the YouTube editor, or they can put the video into Panopto and go through the normal caption process there. If your instructor is unsure how to do these tasks, pleas direct them to the training pages and HERE for adding videos to Panopto.
- Captions on a YouTube (or other) video that is owned by a third party: If your instructor has assigned an un-captioned video that is owned by a third party, please contact the Office of Disability Services if you are supposed to receive captions as an accommodation.
- Live transcript in a Zoom meeting: Zoom now has a live transcript tool available for anyone to use. While this tool is machine captioning and is therefore imperfect, it can be very helpful for many students. If you would like to turn on Zoom live transcripts, follow these instructions.
