Wanda Kraus-Seal
library assistant III, Ablah Library, Academic Affairs and Research
When Wanda Kraus-Seal arrived at Wichita State in 1975, the Ablah Library and circulation
department checked every book out on a card manually. Kraus-Seal worked as a data
entry equipment operator in the circulation department of the Ablah Library, entering
library fines and working at the circulation desk.
Two years later she moved to the technical services department, cataloging. There
she worked as clerk III and helped create digital records for a future online catalog,
primarily for the juvenile literature collection.
In 1981, Kraus-Seal returned to her favorite department, circulation.鈥淭hat was my
first love,鈥 she said.
Kraus-Seal worked as a library assistant I in circulation, before being promoted
to library assistant II in 1985.
Ten years later, an opening in the reserve department prompted her to pursue a different
career within the library.
鈥淭here was an opening in the reserve department as a supervisor, so I decided I needed
a change,鈥 said Kraus-Seal.
She worked as a day supervisor for three years before being promoted to library assistant
III. After 34 years of service to the Ablah Library, Kraus-Seal decided to retire.
鈥淭echnology change is hard to keep up with,鈥 she said.
In retirement, Kraus-Seal continues to work but only part-time when she wants to.
She has also traveled to California and Seattle, Wash., to visit family.
鈥淚 am joining a bowling league this fall with some of my church ladies,鈥 said Kraus-Seal.
鈥淚 am enjoying my retirement.鈥
