According to the latest National Science Foundation data, Wichita State ranks 2nd in the nation for industry-funded engineering expenditures. For fiscal year 2022, Wichita State reported R&D expenditures totaling $261 million, up from $192 million in 2021.

Wichita State鈥檚 rise in the ranks of the nation鈥檚 top engineering and aerospace research universities wouldn鈥檛 be possible if not for the efforts of departments such as the College of Engineering, Firepoint Innovations Center and National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR). The College of Engineering is among the highest-rated engineering graduate school programs in the country; while NIAR and FirePoint are conducting transformative research for industry and military organizations 鈥 with the help of nearly 500 student employees.
