Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) 

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) has two program entry points, postbaccalaureate or postmaster. The postbaccalaureate program offers the choice of Nurse Practitioner (NP) specializations in the areas of Adult Gerontology Acute Care, Family Practice, and Psychiatric/Mental Health as well as the DNP advanced curriculum. The postmaster program provides the students who are already licensed and practicing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and board certified in a specialization, opportunities to advance their knowledge in multiple areas including healthcare systems, health policy, leadership, doctoral level pharmacology and pathophysiology, and evidence-based practice.

Adult / Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner 鈥 Postbaccalaureate

Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP)

An AG-ACNP acts as an expert practitioner, educator, consultant and role model in various hospitals and specialty clinics. Most AG-ACNPs practice in the inpatient setting typically in intensive care units, emergency/trauma or acute care units. Their typical workday requires them to focus on disease prevention, and acute care management of adult patients.

Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)

FNPs have a unique role in managing a range of health problems and care across a patient's lifespan. They provide skillful physical examinations, diagnosis, treatment, education, counseling, and healthy lifestyle promotion. These practitioners work in a range of health care settings, which include areas in primary care, specialty clinics, emergency and correctional departments, educational institutions, long term care, health and wellness and rural health facilities.

Psychiatric - Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

A PMHNP provides assessment, management, diagnosis, and treatment to patients with psychiatric disorders and mental health problems. These practitioners can be found working in mental health centers, psychiatric offices, hospitals and long-term care.

APRN-Clinical Practice Leadership Focus 鈥 Post-Master (Online only)

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Post-Master program at Wichita State provides students who are already licensed as APRNs the opportunity to advance their knowledge in multiple areas including healthcare systems, policy/politics, and evidence-based practice. Full and part-time options allow for flexibility for working APRNs to complete a clinically focused doctorate.
