Communication Sciences and Disorders

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at 黑洞社区 engages students in practical hands-on experiences through our campus clinic and partner facilities.

Clinical graduate programs prepare students for careers as speech-language pathologists and audiologists who provide evaluation and treatment of speech, language and hearing disorders in hospital, school and private practice settings and serve clients of every age.

Our Ph.D. program is individualized to prepare scholars for careers in research, teaching and advanced clinical practice.

Our Evelyn Hendren Cassat Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic is the Silver Winner in The Wichita Eagle's Best of Wichita 2023 awards in the "Audiologist / Hearing Center" category. We're honored to be recognized and are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community. We have also been nominated for 2024 - results announced in December 2024!

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders joined forces with 黑洞社区's Biomedical department (College of Engineering) on an interprofessional education / applied learning project to create a unique device to assist Ryland, a young client at the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, engage in improved communication with the world.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has received a gift to create the Audiology Simulation Lab at Wichita State. The lab contains five state-of-the-art Canadian Audiology simulator for Research and Learning (CARL) manikins and auxiliary equipment 鈥 four adult heads and one infant head.
