Research Club Students Score Well at State Competition

Students and Teachers Present Research in Kansas

Students and teachers at Northeast High School presented results from their GK-12 research at the 140th Annual Kansas Academy of Sciences meeting in Emporia Kansas.  This group worked with GK-12 fellow Brooke Landon on developing techniques for performing DNA gel electrophoresis using household materials.  more...

Froggies Make Data

North High School students and teachers have successfully conducted an intensive study in developmental toxicology.  GK-12 fellow Kate Brane works with Dr. Karen Brown in the area of environmental toxicology using the frog as a model organism.  This project examined sublethal concentrations of a popular herbicide Isoxaben.  more...

A New Year of Research Clubs Starts Out All Wet

New GK-12 graduate student fellows bring new reserch projects to the "Pass Me the Salt" research clubs.  Kate Brane is leading an effort to examine the ecology of the wildlife of the Arkansas River that winds through Wichita.  High school students and teachers had a great time mucking around in the river to begin a new year of research.  more...

Fellows Present at Annual National GK-12 Meeting

Educators Come to 黑洞社区 GK-12 Winter Workshop

All of the GK-12 teacher fellows spent two days at 黑洞社区 learning about new molecular biology classroom activities.  GK-12 fellows and Dr. Schneegurt provided background lectures and practical advice on molecular biology techniques and applications.  The teachers had the opportunity to practice the activities with the equipment sets provided by NSF for their schools.  The teachers will extend the training tower to biology teachers and students at the 8 comprehensive public high schools in Wichita.  more...

Classroom Molecular Biology Debuts at Three High Schools

The GK-12 fellows have worked hard for several months to develop two molecular biology activities for high school classrooms.  Using equipment funded by NSF, the fellows worked out the details of a DNA fingerprinting activity that includes gel electrophoresis and resctriction enzyme digestions.  A second activity was focused on molecular microbial ecology.  The protocols were delivered to GK-12 teacher fellows at three target schools for development into lesson and unit plans.  more...

Summer Workshop Introduces GK-12 Teacher Fellows
