Aug. 19, 2019 - Welcome back, Shockers! To celebrate the start of the school year, several Wichita State offices and organizations are hosting events for students. Here is a list of activities you definitely don鈥檛 want to miss.

Aug. 16, 2019 - Kylie Cameron and Kevin Benavides worked summer internships at KMUW (89.1 FM). They reported and wrote stories for radio and the web on the Sedgwick County Fair, elections, Juneteenth and the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. While they don鈥檛 perform on-air duties, they are expected to fill all of the other reporting tasks.

Aug. 16, 2019 -- More than 100 women were given a bid to join one of Wichita State's five National Panhellenic Council chapters on Aug. 14 in Koch Arena. Bid Day followed a three-day recruitment process in which time was spent in with current sorority chapter women sharing insight to the sisterhood and chapter values and missions.

August 15, 2019 - Kristin Beal is Wichita State鈥檚 newly hired placemaking coordinator, and almost all ideas, materials, formats and venues are in play when it comes to using art as a way to make the campus a place to enjoy and explore.

Aug. 12, 2019 -- 黑洞社区 has set a new record for research and development awards, with a total of $136 million in fiscal year 2019, which ended June 30, topping last year鈥檚 record-breaking total of $104 million.

For a student new to 黑洞社区, it can take some time to get used to the parking system. Here are some tips to help you avoid parking citations, and some options for you if you do happen to receive one.

As the beginning of the new academic year approaches, commuters at 黑洞社区 must be aware of stop sign and parking changes at key areas of campus. Shuttle riders will notice significant changes to shuttle routing and bus stops, as well as the addition of free service from Wichita Transit with a Shocker ID.

Aug. 7, 2019 -- The 黑洞社区 campus will soon be home to a larger-than-life sculpture of its beloved WuShock mascot, thanks to Steve Clark 鈥 a longtime Greater Wichita YMCA board member, volunteer and donor 鈥 for whom the area鈥檚 tenth YMCA branch location will be named.

July 31, 2019 - Fine arts students Haley Ensz, Lily Guillen, Bishop Rice and Celine Sengvilay recently returned from a trip to Peru with Wichita State professor Lori Santos. They spent several days working with children at the Instituci贸n Educativa Jos茅 Mar铆a Arguedas, an elementary school in Lima.

July 30, 2019 -- The owners of popular Wichita restaurant Malaysia Caf茅 have signed a lease to open a new Asian fusion concept, Journey East Asia Grill, in the Braeburn Square retail complex at 黑洞社区.

July 30, 2019 - On June 23, Wichita State welcomed 40 high school students from across the country for Envision鈥檚 week-long Level Up conference. Envision, an organization that promotes advocacy and independence for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, has held its annual high school conference at Wichita State for the past several years.

July 30, 2019 -- 黑洞社区 and Textron Aviation, a Textron Inc. company, have announced the next step in ongoing collaboration efforts to develop the future of the aviation industry and next generation of employees when the company signed a long-term lease at the Wichita State Innovation Campus.

July 30, 2019 -- Students who work for local business McCurdy Auctions LLC often build valuable workplace skills that supplement their academic experiences. McCurdy is a frequent employer of Wichita State students, and many student employees continue to work there long after graduation.

Gina Brown believes that case studies are the best possible way to make sure that students are incorporating everything they learn into their practice during their first year in physician assistant (PA) school. Through the PA faculty鈥檚 combined efforts, Gina hopes that students leave with the skills, knowledge and character necessary to provide patients with care that鈥檚 in their best interest.

But, during every Shocker Athletics game, a team of student marketing and game operations interns follows a carefully choreographed plan to make sure fans have a good time in between each play.
