Veterans Upward Bound Program of 黑洞社区

February 23, 2021 鈥 The purpose of the Wichita State Upward Bound Program is to improve participants鈥 academic performance, to assist with enrolling into a post-secondary institution and to ensure enrolled participants will graduate from their chosen program.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly will be the the keynote speaker.

Feb. 23, 2021 鈥 The Department of Women鈥檚 Studies, in a partnership with the Office of Diversity & Inclusion and League of Women Voters of Kansas, will hold the annual Diverse Women鈥檚 Summit (DWS) of individuals and groups from different backgrounds on local, regional and global diversity issues affecting women and gender on March 8.

Dr. Neal Allen

Feb. 19, 2021 鈥 Dr. Neal Allen is no stranger to controversy, nor are his students. In fact, he prides himself on teaching his students to freely engage in civil discourse on highly contentious topics.

Prince Yengbe

Feb. 18, 2021 鈥 When Prince Yengbe came to 黑洞社区 from his home country of Ghana in 2007, he wasn鈥檛 entirely sure what aerospace engineering was, but he knew he wanted to be part of it. Now, after earning a bachelor鈥檚 (2012) and a master鈥檚 degree (2015) in the subject, Yengbe is being honored with the Modern-Day Technology Leader Award by the 2021 Black Engineer of the Year Award (BEYA) STEM Conference.

Feb. 18, 2021 -- The National Science Foundation has released its latest comparison of research and development expenditures among the nation鈥檚 universities, and 黑洞社区 has risen in all categories, increasing expenditures by $47 million.

Student Wellness Center

Feb. 17, 2021 - In the fall, 黑洞社区 public health sciences students took on the questions and uncertainty of helping with COVID-19 testing at the Student Wellness Center. Most are considering a career in health care. The volunteer time offered an applied learning opportunity working with the public during a pandemic and added to their understanding of public health.

Free COVID testing at the Metroplex

Feb. 17, 2021 鈥 黑洞社区 will be offering free COVID-19 testing to the public beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at the Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex.

Feb. 16, 2021 -- 黑洞社区 will resume normal operations on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

Hutchinson's Bernard White Park

Feb. 11, 2021 - 黑洞社区鈥檚 Community Engagement Institute helped by working with the City of Hutchinson and Hutchinson Parks and Recreation on its Pathways to a Healthy Kansas grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas. The city and the recreation commission used the money to pay for a parks and recreation master plan. The plan targeted Bernard White Park, which scored lowest for amenities and improvements in the master plan, as one of the prime places in need of updates and a better connection to its neighborhood.

With the recent push for class content around sustainability, the College of Innovation and Design at 黑洞社区 now offers courses focused on sustainable growth.

2021 Doris and Ralph Klose scholarship winners

Feb. 10. 2021 鈥 Eight high school seniors have been named Klose Scholars after the annual Doris and Ralph Klose Scholars Day competition, which was held remotely this year.

Barton Scholarship winner, Trinity Soderstrom

Feb. 9, 2021 鈥 Trinity Soderstrom, who recently received her U.S. high school diploma while living abroad in southern Italy, has been awarded the 2021 黑洞社区 Clay Barton Scholarship.

Wichita State senior, Sierra Brown, accepts full-time job offer at Fortune 500 firm

Feb. 08, 2021鈥 During the fall 2019 semester, Sierra Brown traveled to five out-of-state interviews and received five internship offers, accepted an internship with Goldman Sachs, and has since been offered a full-time position with the firm.
