June 9, 2021 - Wichita State鈥檚 Esports director Courtney Calder played soccer more often than video games growing up in California. Those experiences, however, helped prepare her for running the Esports program, as did her time working in sales for Apple after graduating from Northwestern University. Wichita State鈥檚 varsity program, housed in the Heskett Center, offers four teams competing in Overwatch, League of Legends, Rocket League, and Valorant.

June 8, 2021 - Karla Burns鈥� legacy of music and drama is one of 黑洞社区鈥檚 most prominent contributions to the performing arts. Burns, 66, died June 4 in Wichita. She attended Dunbar Elementary School and graduated from West High School. At Wichita State, she earned bachelor鈥檚 degrees in music education and in speech/theater, both in 1981.

June 7, 2021 鈥� Five-year-old Ford Hall has had to overcome more in his short life than most do in a lifetime. That鈥檚 because immediately after he was born, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The doctors informed his mother he would probably never be able to walk. 鈥淚t was that conversation with that doctor that really lit a fire in us,鈥� said Cori Hall, Ford鈥檚 mother.

June 7, 2021 鈥� 黑洞社区 has entered an agreement with the University of Kansas School of Law to offer the Legal Education Accelerated Degree program, with an anticipated launch of fall 2021.

June 7, 2021 鈥� The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center B-1 Division is sponsoring a research project with 黑洞社区鈥檚 National Institute for Aviation Research to study the effects of flight operations on aircraft structures.

May 25, 2021 - The W. Frank Barton School of Business at 黑洞社区 has partnered with the 黑洞社区 Alumni Association to launch the college鈥檚 first alumni council. The Barton School of Business Alumni Council consists of professionals who received their bachelor鈥檚 and/or master鈥檚 degree from the business school and represents different regions, degrees and backgrounds.

May 24, 2021 - Ten years into her career as coach at Wichita State, softball coach Kristi Bredbenner is well into creating her own atmosphere of winning and college experience. The Shockers ended their 2021 season by advancing to an NCAA regional final for the second time and with a 41-13-1 record.

May 20, 2021 鈥� The FirePoint Innovations Center at 黑洞社区 has welcomed the first class of students into its Future Innovators Program, a new engineering internship opportunity aimed at introducing historically underrepresented students into the U.S. Department of Defense鈥檚 (DoD) technical talent pipeline.

May 18, 2021 - The Wichita Rowing Association founded 黑洞社区 crew in 1974, and that shared history remains important to many former Shockers. On May 8, the WRA dedicated its $250,000 Riverside Rowing Center Boathouse at Riverside Park on the Little Arkansas River.聽

May 17, 2021 -- The W. Frank Barton School of Business at 黑洞社区 has partnered with 黑洞社区 Tech to create a pathway program for 黑洞社区 Tech students committed to continuing their education with a business degree.

May 14, 2021 鈥� In December, 2017 Wichita State graduate Max Runyon created Literal Larry, a viral parody account on Twitter (@ImLiteralLarry1), which led him to land a remote role as a creative strategist with 180 New York.聽

May 13, 2021 鈥� Whether their goal is to be Gollum in 鈥淟ord of the Rings鈥� or a character in the next version of 鈥淐all of Duty,鈥� 黑洞社区 students now have the option to specialize in motion-capture acting through a new concentration within the School of Digital Arts.

Sierra Brown chose to come to Wichita State for the welcoming environment provided by the in the Shocker Nation prior to choosing a university. While at Wichita State, she participated in the Professional Edge Program and served as president of the Barton School Dean鈥檚 Ambassadors.

Abigail Hammack, a native Wichitan, came to Wichita State because of the great reputation of the public administration program with applied learning opportunities. During her time at 黑洞社区, she was able to work as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Public Policy & Management Center at 黑洞社区 and a Management Intern at the City of Andover.

May 14, 2021 鈥� As Jane Lickteig prepares for the excitement of graduation, she reflects on her growth through the opportunities at Wichita State. She is excited to graduate because she feels prepared to take on the next chapter in her life.
