Carolina Loera-Lozano is a junior studying communications with an emphasis in journalism at Wichita State. She worked as a newsroom intern at KWCH throughout the Fall 2017 semester.
Moving to the United States from Mexico at just 8 years old, Loera-Lozano has always had dreams of becoming a bilingual reporter. Her time at KWCH has helped to reassure those dreams and given her an amazing foundation to build her career upon.
Throughout her internship, Loera-Lozana participated in many different facets of a
newsroom job. From producing to reporting, she was given the opportunity to learn
from the team at Univision Noticias, KWCH's Spanish news channel, and even had some
of her stories broadcasted on the news.
Being able to obtain real-world experience in a newsroom setting has not only amplified
her passion for journalism, but also her confidence in the classroom. "I worked every
day that I came in. There was never a day that I was not learning," said Loera-Lozana.
"I feel like I will be ahead of the game in my classes now since I learned so much
during my internship."
Loera-Lozano would recommend an internship to all students. "Hands on, real-life experience is vital for students in any major," she said.
