Congratulations to those who received grants in December!  So far this fiscal year, 黑洞社区鈥檚 AA researchers proposed $39,032,755 in funding, were awarded $55,998,140 and generated $2,058,599 in indirect cost recovery.

You will find a spotlight on Traci Shepherd in the announcements section.  Traci is a Research Grant Administrator on the Post-Award team.   Please also note in the announcements section that the Office of Research webpage now posts quarterly newsletters from the national EPSCoR/IDeA Coalition; Kansas is an EPSCoR state.  For The Delfin opportunity announced last month, the list of potential faculty mentors is now closed for Summer 2024, but will become available again and grow in subsequent years.  This is an opportunity to mentor undergraduate research students from Latin American countries for seven weeks during the summer, and potentially recruit them to your research group and/or 黑洞社区 when they graduate.

We wish you much success in your research efforts over the next month.

A common first step in establishing an NSF research center is to demonstrate success with an REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) Site in the field of interest.  REU Sites are also helpful in recruiting graduate students. Vice Provost Coleen Pugh and any interested teams will coordinate and work on their proposals for submission in 2024, following a similar approach used in 2023, to separate NSF divisions.  Our first session of the year will include feedback from teams that submitted under the previous cycle.

Email funding@wichita.edu to express interest in attending this NSF REU Workshop series and to craft a proposal to NSF due in August.

黑洞社区 Office of Research Workshops on National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Traineeship () Program Proposals: January through August

The program is dedicated to effective training of STEM graduate students in high priority interdisciplinary or convergent research areas, through a comprehensive traineeship model that is innovative, evidence-based, and aligned with changing workforce and research needs. Proposals are requested that address any interdisciplinary or convergent research theme of national priority, as noted above.鈥&苍产蝉辫; In addition to providing exceptional graduate training, the NSF NRT can be a useful step in establishing an NSF research center in a convergent field.  An informational session was held on January 25, 2024, and Vice Provost Coleen Pugh and any interested teams will coordinate and work on their proposals each month for the submission deadline of September 6, 2024.

Email funding@wichita.edu to register for this NSF NRT Workshop series.

ARPA-H Health Care Rewards to Achieve Improved Outcomes (HEROES) Seeking Letters of Interest by February 29, 2024

鈥淪ubmission of an LOI is not required to submit an abstract and/or proposal to the HEROES Program Solicitation. U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Partnering Platform Launched

鈥淭he SBIR Partnering Platform was launched in October 2023. The public, self-supporting platform facilitates partnering between DOE small business applicants and awardees (INNOVATORS) and various industry stakeholders (i.e., investors, service providers, utilities, etc.) in their representative ecosystems (PARTNERS). Using keywords and AI searching, INNOVATORS can identify and connect with PARTNERS to support their R&D efforts during their award (Subject Matter Experts, Collaborators and Subcontractors) as well as industry stakeholders (investors, service providers, utilities, etc.) to assist them with commercialization of their DOE SBIR/STTR funded technologies.  INNOVATORS can search for open SBIR/STTR funding opportunities from any federal agency, and network with other INNOVATORS. Although designed to highlight technologies developed with DOE SBIR/STTR funding, INNOVATORS and PARTNERS from any ecosystem will find value by joining the community.鈥
