Overview

Dr. Courtney D. McHenry leads 黑洞社区鈥檚 Office of Civil Rights, Title IX & ADA Compliance (CTAC) as the Associate Vice President, in addition to his roles as the University鈥檚 Title IX Coordinator and Clery Officer. Before joining 黑洞社区, he was instrumental with the City of Columbus, OH Department of Public Safety as the EEO Compliance Officer and Assistant Safety Director. During this time, Dr. McHenry was as an advisor to the public safety director and a member of the safety director鈥檚 executive team. His responsibilities consisted of overseeing Title VI and Title VII programming, training, and education for the divisions of police, fire, and support services. Additionally, Dr. McHenry frequently conducted joint investigations with members of the Office of Internal Affairs and the Department of Professional Standards regarding employee relations and EEO compliance matters.

His experience working in higher education consists of time spent at institutions such as West Virginia University as a Title IX/Civil Rights Investigator & Program Coordinator; Florida State University as a Sr. Title IX Investigator; and after serving as the Assistant Director and Sr. Deputy Title IX Coordinator for the Office of Civil Rights Compliance and Accessibility, Dr. McHenry was appointed Interim Title IX Coordinator and Director at Florida International University. Following his time in south Florida, he briefly returned to his alma mater and contributed to the development of Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University鈥檚 Office of Equal Opportunity Programs, Title IX, and Labor Relations as Acting Director & Title IX Coordinator.

Dr. McHenry graduated from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University with dual degrees in Criminal Justice (concentration in Legal Studies) and Spanish, a master鈥檚 degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida, and a PhD in Ethical Leadership from St. Thomas University located in Miami Gardens, FL. His research areas include adolescent and adult peer-sexual harassment, Title IX programming, effective workplace collaboration, and authentic and transformational leadership.

Dr. McHenry is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice Honor Society, and Kappa Gamma Pi National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society. In addition, Dr. McHenry holds nationally recognized certifications as a Certified Affirmative Action Professional (CAAP) and a Certified Diversity Executive (CDE). He previously held sensitive and secret government clearances during his time interning with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and soon thereafter, as a Special Investigator charged with conducting national security investigations on behalf of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. His hobbies include traveling, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new strategies to influence first-generation students like himself.
