Overview

Amy DeVault teaches digital media and journalism courses at 黑洞社区. She came to 黑洞社区 in 2007 after five years as a visual journalist at The Wichita Eagle, where she designed the front page for more than a year. She won an Award of Excellence from the Society for News Design for the BTK extra edition and helped The Eagle win numerous design awards from the Kansas Press Association, including overall best front page. She did some of the earliest multimedia work for the Eagle's website, Kansas.com.

Since 2010, DeVault has co-instructed the Flint Hills Media Project 鈥 an experience-based, multimedia journalism project and one of 黑洞社区's first experiential-learning classes as students cover the annual Symphony in the Flint Hills event and the people and communities surrounding each year's new location.

In a past life, DeVault taught high school journalism, and she remains active in scholastic journalism, teaching at national high school conventions and summer workshops. She is a certified Master Journalism Educator (MJE) with the national Journalism Education Association and was honored by that organization in 2011 with their Friend of Scholastic Journalism award.

DeVault has presented papers at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication annual conventions and currently serves as teaching chair of the Visual Communication division. She also has presented at two national conferences for the Broadcast Educators Association.
