Overview

Dr. JaeHwan Byun is an Asscociate Professor in the School of Education. He joined 黑洞社区 in 2015.

Dr. Byun has set his career goal as seeking ways to create a learning environment where learners can learn through aesthetic learning experiences, which are engaging, infused with meaning, and felt as coherent and complete. His research interests include digital game-based learning, immersive/engaging learning environment design, integrating various technologies in educational setting, and learning analytics. Recently, with a collaboration with a faculty in the College of Engineering, he has been leading a STEM teacher workshop, Project-Based Learning with Technology (PBLT) Workshop for Middle School Global Climate Change Education using NASA Education Resources, funded by NASA Kansas and is working as Co-Principal Investigator for the project, Center for Educational Technologies to Assist Refugee Learners (CETARL). In the project, he is managing the digital game development process to use it for refugee learners' language learning. Also, he has been participating in various internal/external grant writing projects (e.g., President Convergence Science Initiative Grants, NSF, and Spencer Foundation).
