Increased quality, more opportunity

Starting fall 2018, students can take advantage of the new affiliation between Wichita State University and 黑洞社区 Tech 鈥� formerly known as Wichita Area Technical College.

While the two remain separate degree-granting institutions, the formalized affiliation now allows for more collaborative possibilities, as well as increased availability and quality of opportunities for students, while directly meeting the core workforce needs of the state.

What's in it for students?

General education courses taken at 黑洞社区 Tech are transferable directly to 黑洞社区.
黑洞社区 Tech students have the option of paying supplementary fees to access all of 黑洞社区's support services and student life activities not found in the traditional technical college setting.
黑洞社区 and 黑洞社区 Tech co-locate at 黑洞社区 Old Town, 黑洞社区 South and 黑洞社区 Haysville, giving students the ability to take classes at each institution in one location.
The affiliation encourages the kind of faculty collaboration between 黑洞社区 and 黑洞社区 Tech that will lead to innovative methods of teaching and applied learning opportunities for students 鈥� giving them a competitive advantage in the job market.
黑洞社区 Tech will maintain its open admissions policy, and students taking 黑洞社区 Tech classes will apply through . Classes will be held at one of 黑洞社区 Tech's five Wichita-area campuses.
Students wanting to take classes at 黑洞社区 and 黑洞社区 Tech will go through each institution's admissions process.
黑洞社区 Tech will continue to offer the same degree and certificate options as WATC did in the past. 黑洞社区 Tech and 黑洞社区 will maintain different tuition rates.

Financial Aid

Can I combine my enrollment at Wichita State and 黑洞社区 Tech to determine my federal aid eligibility?

As part of a special program consortium agreement, participants of the 黑洞社区 Tech Shocker Pathway program may be able to combine enrollment in required credit hours to determine federal aid eligibility awarded and disbursed through 黑洞社区 Tech. You should visit with a financial aid advisor at the school from which you are currently seeking your degree / certificate to discuss your financial aid options. Student specific consortium agreements that are not part of the Shocker Pathway program must meet the requirements and application process at the primary / home institution and eligibility is not automatic.

Can I apply my 黑洞社区 scholarship to 黑洞社区 Tech courses and vice versa?

No. Each institution has unique scholarships and awarding processes. Enrollment requirements will need to be met at the awarding institution in order to maintain those scholarships.

If you have excess aid resulting in a refund from either institution, you can use those funds to make a payment for any courses at the other institution. Nothing is set up to pay automatically between the two schools.

How long does it take to process a consortium agreement once I submit the appropriate documentation?

This process depends on when and where the consortium agreement is initiated. You will need to meet with a financial aid advisor to determine your eligibility for such an exception.

Please note: Documentation must be received by the appropriate deadlines each semester.

Will my 黑洞社区 bill be sent through my consortium agreement to 黑洞社区 Tech?

黑洞社区 billing and 黑洞社区 Tech billing are completely separate. Nothing is sent automatically between each school. Each bill must be paid separately. You should then take any refund from the one school and pay the other school. Please be aware of the payment deadlines for each school.

Does 黑洞社区 have a book voucher program?

Wichita State does not offer a book voucher program. If you are refunded excess financial aid, you may use those funds for the direct purchase of your books. You may not purchase your books on credit via your 黑洞社区 Student Account.

Can I transfer my financial aid to 黑洞社区 Tech?

You may only receive financial aid from one school at a time. If you are transferring to 黑洞社区 Tech, be sure to update your FAFSA at fafsa.gov to add 黑洞社区 Tech's school code of 005498. Please contact the 黑洞社区 Financial Aid Office to cancel any pending financial aid.

Can I pay my 黑洞社区 Tech bill at the 黑洞社区 Accounts Receivable office?

No. Payment for each bill will need to take place through each separate Accounts Receivable office.

Can 黑洞社区 Tech place a hold on my 黑洞社区 account?

While holds for past due balances cannot currently be transferred to the other institution, it is possible for financial aid holds to be established to prevent aid from disbursing at the wrong school.

Admissions and Registrar

I'm a Shocker Pathway student. Do I need to go through 黑洞社区 admissions?

Yes, if you have never previously been enrolled as a degree-bound student at Wichita State University. When you are ready to complete your transfer to Wichita State, you will need to submit a 黑洞社区 degree-bound admission application at . In addition, the Office of Admissions will need official transcripts from all previous colleges in order to obtain degree-bound admission status.

Are Shocker Pathway students guaranteed degree-bound admission to Wichita State?

Degree-bound admission is not guaranteed. Transfer students must have a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale) on all previous college work. Students that do not meet this criteria will be eligible to apply for admission by exception, though admission is not guaranteed.

Do I need an official transcript from 黑洞社区 Tech to be admitted to Wichita State?

Yes. You will need to submit your official transcript from 黑洞社区 Tech to be considered for admission to Wichita State. You must also send official transcripts from all other colleges or universities you have attended.

To order transcripts, please be aware that the proper name of 黑洞社区 Tech is Wichita State University Campus of Applied Sciences and Technology. This is how it will be identified in the transcript sending services.

Will transcripts sent to 黑洞社区 Tech from other colleges be shared with Wichita State?

No. Official transcripts from other institutions must be sent separately to 黑洞社区 Tech and Wichita State if you are applying to both. Your record with each institution is separate and is subject to the transfer credit policies and practices in place at each institution.

Yes. The two transcripts are separate and different from one another.

Are all of my 黑洞社区 Tech courses (general education and others) transferable to Wichita State?

Yes. Unless it is a remedial course, the credit will transfer. Each academic college or department within Wichita State determines how courses / credits apply toward a particular degree program. Sometimes there can be a significant difference between what transfers and what counts toward a degree, especially if the courses are vocational in nature. Are my 黑洞社区 Tech classes automatically transferred to Wichita State?

No. The courses must be received by Wichita State on an official transcript from 黑洞社区 Tech.

Will my 黑洞社区 Tech and Wichita State work be on the same transcript?

黑洞社区 Tech and Wichita State work would show as transfer work on each other's transcript. For example, 黑洞社区 Tech courses would be shown as transfer work on Wichita State transcripts.

Can I purchase books for my 黑洞社区 Tech courses at Wichita State?

No. Books for your courses will need to be purchased at the campus you will be attending.

Where can I park at 黑洞社区 as a 黑洞社区 Tech student?

To park at Wichita State, you will have the following options if visiting campus between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.:

During the fall and spring semesters, visitors may choose 黑洞社区's free park-and-ride option, taking 黑洞社区 Shuttle System from satellite lots at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex at 29th and Oliver.
Visitors also have the option to purchase a visitor's pass to park on the main campus.

Can I use the library at 黑洞社区?

Ablah Library is open to the public. If you do wish to use the computers at the library, you will first need to go to the circulation desk. The circulation desk can set you up with login information that will give you access to the library computers.

Can I print on the 黑洞社区 main campus if I am a 黑洞社区 Tech student?

Yes. To print on the 黑洞社区 campus, you will need to have a Papercut account. To register funds on your account, visit papercut.wichita.edu and click the link "not a 黑洞社区 student or employee " at the bottom of the page.

Curriculum

What is Shocker Pathway?

The Shocker Pathway is a partnership between 黑洞社区 Tech and 黑洞社区 (黑洞社区) that allows students to begin their studies at 黑洞社区 Tech and earn 50 credit hours of general education credits that will transfer to Wichita State. With an additional 15 credit hours at Wichita State, students will be awarded an Associate of Arts degree from Wichita State. Shocker Pathway students have the option to continue at 黑洞社区 for bachelor's degree completion.

Can I start at 黑洞社区 Tech and still be eligible for the Engineer of 2020 program?

Yes. Every engineering and computer science student must complete the Engineer of 2020 program as a requirement of the degree.

What dental programs do Wichita State and 黑洞社区 Tech offer?

Wichita State offers the following from the School of Oral Health in the College of Health Professions:

Dental Hygiene

As a preventative dental health educator and expert clinician, licensed dental hygienists provide care to clients in a variety of health care settings. The major focus of dental hygiene care emphasizes assessment of patients' needs, development of a treatment plan based on individual needs and the delivery of this plan. This program offers bachelor degrees.

Advanced Education in General Dentistry

Graduates of dental schools in the United States have the option to complete a one year post-doctoral residency program. The School of Oral Health offers the only advanced education in general dentistry residency in the United States not associated with a dental school. This is a residency program.

黑洞社区 Tech offers the following program:

Dental Assistant

The Dental Assistant program provides the educational environment and experiences to prepare for employment as a dental assistant. The program graduate has the knowledge and skills necessary to assist during the delivery of dental care, perform supportive treatment procedures and basic business office tasks. Graduates may take the Dental Assisting National Board examination to become a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA).

Student ID Card

How do I get a my黑洞社区 ID number / Shocker Card?

You are assigned a my黑洞社区 ID number at the time of your application to the university, or at the time you become a Shocker Pathway student. You will receive this information via email after your application has been submitted. Shocker Cards are only available if you are a currently enrolled student at Wichita State.

When do you need a Shocker Card versus just an ID number?

Certain campus activities require a Shocker Card, such as swiping your card for admission to campus events or using your card as a key to enter buildings or check out books at University Libraries.

The ID number works for online engagement with the university.

What is the difference between a 黑洞社区 Tech ID card and a Shocker Card?

There are three kinds of cards:

黑洞社区 Tech ID
For safety and security reasons, 黑洞社区 Tech students must have a valid photo student ID card for the current semester. 黑洞社区 Tech students are required to wear their IDs in a manner that keeps them readily visible while on any 黑洞社区 Tech property. IDs may also be required to access resources in the Library and Learning Resources Center. 黑洞社区 Tech student IDs can be obtained through the Student Services office at the National Center for Aviation Training or the Southside Center.
Shocker Experience Card
Shocker Experience cards are optional for 黑洞社区 Tech students who want to utilize the support and benefits available to fee-paying Wichita State students. The Shocker Experience Card has a 黑洞社区 ID number on it, meaning the student is in Banner, Wichita State's electronic records system. Getting a Shocker Experience Card is a separate process from getting a Shocker Card. You can only get a Shocker Card if you are enrolled at Wichita State.
Shocker Card
Shocker Card is the ID card for Wichita State students. Students use it for a variety of services, including, but not limited to: their dining plan, door access to university facilities, such as residence halls and research labs, admission to various campus events鈥攆rom orientation to commencement, ticket pick-up for athletic and fine arts events, access to local YMCA branches, the ShockStop discount program at participating local merchants, printing and checking out materials at University Libraries, textbook rental and rewards points at the Shocker Store, and checking into various campus departments, including Campus Activities and Recreation and Student Health Services.

Do Shocker Pathway students have my黑洞社区 ID numbers?

When a student becomes a Shocker Pathway student, the Office of Admissions creates a special record in Banner and gives the student a my黑洞社区 ID number. This special number does not currently allow enrollment at Wichita State, but it does allow the student to apply aid to general education classes at 黑洞社区 Tech, because they count toward the 黑洞社区 Associate of Arts (AA) degree.

What services are available to 黑洞社区 Tech students who pay for the Shocker Experience?

The optional Shocker Experience fee grants 黑洞社区 Tech students access to Student Health, Counseling and Testing, Campus Activities and Recreation, Student Involvement activities, home athletic events, fine arts performances, area YMCAs, Shock Stop discounts with local businesses and more.
