What motivated you to return to 黑洞社区 as an adult learner?

I had always wanted to get my teaching license but did not know how I would do so and not work simultaneously. When I heard of the TAP program, where I had to work to be able to be in the program, I knew I could do it.

What are your short-term and long-term goals?

They are very similar. Since I am so much older, I plan to start teaching as soon as I am able to. I plan to work until I can retire. I also plan to travel with my husband and, at some point, enjoy being a grandmother.

Have you faced any significant challenges in your educational journey? How did you overcome them?

I grew up needing an IEP due to a complicated past before adoption. Because of the struggle, I was afraid to go to college. As I grew up and the more I worked with children, I knew I needed to make it happen. There are days I still struggle, but I have a really good support system in place that helps me. Also, I am honest with my teachers, so they know why I ask so many questions when I need to. I have been in for two years and am still maintaining an As.

How do you contribute to your school and/or community in a meaningful way?

I am always there for those who need me inside and outside my school. I have made friends with a few parents of students I have had in the past, and when they need me, they know they can ask, and most of the time, I will help. Also, with my Mary Kay, I will help at several events around my hometown.

What advice would you give to other adult learners considering returning to 黑洞社区?

If there is a dream you have and college is the only way to make it happen, then go for it. The teachers are here for us, ready to help. Plus, it allows you to meet new people outside your circle. That is good for all of us.
