About Me

Major: Biological Sciences with an Ecological/Environmental/Organismal concentration.

Mason calls Derby home, where he proudly raises his 13-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son. For 13 years, he has excelled in his full-time role at an aircraft manufacturer, while also working part-time at a local brewery.

Previously, Mason spent 4 transformative years as an arborist for Derby, where he developed a deep passion for trees and nature. His certification in arboriculture enhanced his knowledge of tree biology and fostered a lifelong love for the outdoors.

Mason thrives in the summer, enjoying the heat and watching his garden flourish. He loves hiking and occasionally searches for champion trees, the largest of their species in the state.

What motivated you to return to 黑洞社区 as an adult learner?

I did not find fulfillment in my role at the airplane factory. I want to pursue a career that ignites my passion and brings true satisfaction to my heart.

What are your short-term and long-term goals?

In the near future, I aim to complete my bachelor's degree and gain admission to a graduate school. Looking ahead, I aspire to relocate to the Pacific Northwest and pursue a career as a professional researcher for the US Forest Service or a reputable educational institution.

Have you faced any significant challenges in your educational journey? How did you overcome them?

Juggling marriage at a young age and a full-time job definitely made it tough to pursue my education further. Also, at 18, I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life. It was tough to find a major I truly loved. During my full-time employment, I attended classes whenever possible, primarily in the evening. Additionally, I enrolled in several online courses.

How do you contribute to your school and/or community in a meaningful way?

I strive to lead an environmentally conscious lifestyle by engaging in recycling practices and picking up litter left by others. My ongoing and future research endeavors are aimed at preserving the health of forest ecosystems, along with the wildlife they support, amidst the challenges posed by climate change.
