MajorEducation - History, Government and Social Studies (Secondary)

Wichita State's Bachelor of Arts in Education (BAED)鈥攈istory, government and social studies (secondary)鈥攆ocuses on the academic disciplines of history, politics, culture and effective teaching. Graduates are well prepared for careers as certified teachers in grades 6-12. The program combines classroom learning and real-world teaching experience in Kansas' largest school district.

Applied learning at Wichita State

At Wichita State, applied learning is everything. In fact, every degree we offer has a guaranteed applied learning or research experience built right into it equipping you with the relevant skills and experience to make you workforce ready before graduation.

Admission to the program

To be admitted into the College of Applied Studies, you must first be admitted to Wichita State. In addition, you must complete your general education courses and a teacher education application to be admitted into the professional program.

Inside the Program

Study abroad provides invaluable experience for student

Sam Belsan, Secondary History major, was among the first students at 黑洞社区 to participate in the Teach in Paraguay program. The summer study abroad program allows education majors to gain experience student teaching in Paraguay. While there, Sam was also able to try Paraguayan delicacies, meet with government officials and explore the ruins. Sam shared, "The students at Colegio del Sol also made my time in Ciudad del Este remarkable. They embraced me as a person who could help them grow in their understanding of English and I embraced them as people who could help me grow in my understanding of Paraguay."

Curriculum

The four-year history, government and social studies program starts with two years of general education followed by two years of teacher education. The curriculum was developed in collaboration by university faculty and P-12 practitioners and includes teaching internships.
