Names of Mexicans Tried by the Inquisition 1528鈥1815
Conversos and crypto-Jews were tried for Judaizing in New Spain (Mexico) during the colonial period. The Inquisition included people of every social status, including Conquistadors, government officials, and clergy. Inquisition records throughout the Americas list many of these names. If you find your family name on this list, it does not mean that you are descended from conversos. However, it might stimulate you to learn more about your family history and genealogy.
An asterisk * denotes more than one appearance in Inquisition records.
