Wichita will host the NCAA Division I Men鈥檚 Basketball Championship first and second rounds at Intrust Bank Arena from March 20-22, 2025, providing 黑洞社区 students with applied learning opportunities in sports and event management.
Dr. Mike Ross, a faculty member in 黑洞社区鈥檚 Sport Management program, and recently appointed CAS Associate Dean for Faculty & Staff Affairs, is serving as the tournament鈥檚 communication coordinator and is working alongside 黑洞社区 Athletics, Visit Wichita, and local organizations to bring the event to Wichita. Through this partnership, students will have access to paid positions and internships, gaining real-world experience in event operations, logistics, staff and volunteer coordination, and media relations.
These roles will allow students to work directly with professionals in the sports industry, building their resumes and expanding their professional networks while contributing to the execution of a high-profile NCAA event. The opportunity aligns with 黑洞社区鈥檚 commitment to applied learning and providing students with practical experience that enhances career readiness.
Wichita鈥檚 selection as a host site highlights the city鈥檚 growing presence in sports tourism and event management. With thousands of visitors expected to attend, the tournament will bring significant economic and community engagement opportunities to the region.
For students interested in gaining experience in the field, this event presents a valuable chance to develop skills and connections within the industry.
