Accessibility Tip of the WeekAccessibility Tip of the Week: Use the 'Styles' tool and other built-in tools in Word

Instead of building your documents completely by hand. These habits will improve the accessibility of your final documents and make them beneficial to all your students.

  • The 鈥淪tyles鈥 link can be found in the 鈥淗ome鈥 tab in Word. Use these styles to build your headings and sub-headings in your document.
  • If you don鈥檛 like the formatting of Word鈥檚 default headings, change them in the 鈥淪tyles Pane鈥 tool, or you can change the theme or format using the choices under the 鈥淒esign鈥 tab or by right clicking on top of the styles in the 鈥淪tyles Pane鈥 and choosing 鈥淢odify.鈥
  • Use the 鈥淏ullets,鈥 鈥淣umbering,鈥 鈥淭abs,鈥 and 鈥淎lignment鈥 tools to structure your documents instead of typing in these elements by hand.

Have questions about how different tools work in Word or other Microsoft products? Check out the great training opportunities listed in myTraining and provided to you by ITS, and consider becoming a Microsoft Office Power User.
