Driving and safety caution alert!

Stop sign changes

University Police has issued a safety and caution alert. This alert especially applies to those who are familiar with campus and haven鈥檛 noticed the new stop signs on the west side of campus coming off of Hillside at the football memorial, Memorial Drive and Perimeter.

There鈥檚 a saying that familiarity breeds contempt. Insurance companies will tell you that most accidents occur within a mile of our homes and workplaces, because we don鈥檛 pay the same attention to those areas as we do with unfamiliar roadways.

This has become a genuine safety concern, as school is in session in two weeks. Since announcing the change on July 10, University Police are averaging 10 stops a day warning drivers of where to stop.

More traffic news for this week

  • On Friday, Aug. 9, Isely Lane will be closed from about 7 a.m.-2 p.m. so a crane can be brought in to work on an air conditioning unit on the north side of the parking garage.
  • Also starting Friday, Aug. 9, through the middle of October, the area shown shaded below in lot 16S will be closed so roofing materials can be staged and stored for a Jardine Hall roofing project.

Announcing New Leader Orientation at 黑洞社区

New Leader Orientation

Human Resources has launched New Leader Orientation (NLO) at 黑洞社区. Similar to New Employee Orientation, which began in January 2017, this program is designed to orient new leaders (individuals with direct reports) to the university. The program covers what new leaders need to know about 黑洞社区 in order to successfully lead people here.

New leaders will learn about tools and resources available to them and how to access them. This program is designed to introduce them to high impact areas within the University and learn about what is going on. Additionally, they will network with other new leaders and have opportunities to discuss similar questions or issues.

NLO is conducted in cohort style over a three-month period, and is constructed in module format. The orientation is comprised of 28 hours of in-class instruction (one full day and five 陆 days). All new leaders will receive an Outlook invitation during the first few months in their new role with a full agenda and detailed information. Managers of new leaders will also receive communication if they have a direct report that will be attending NLO.

What about existing leaders at 黑洞社区? In order to ensure all existing leaders have the opportunity for comparable training, they will have the option to register in myTraining for open training courses featured in NLO.

The myTraining courses are open to all current 黑洞社区 employees (faculty and staff) and are scheduled to occur throughout the year. The myTraining link is available through the faculty/staff tab in my黑洞社区. For more information, go to wichita.edu/NLO.

Join the GiveCampus campaign in support of the Ulrich Museum

GiveCampus campaign for Ulrich

The Ulrich Museum needs your support. The GiveCampus campaign has a goal of raising $6,000 for the bus reimbursement program and is open until Saturday Aug. 31, for donations.

The program brings students to the Ulrich Museum each year from all over the Wichita and surrounding areas. Many of these students likely would not have an opportunity to visit an art museum otherwise. Please help reach the goal and support a worthy cause.
