CMD hosts national conference

CMD hosts national conference

The Center for Management Development (CMD) is hosting the national Appraisal for Ad Valorem Taxation Conference this week on the 黑洞社区 campus. This is the 49th year CMD has facilitated this conference.

The program is designed to study in detail the appraisal of communications, energy and transportation properties for Ad Valorem Taxation. There is no other conference in the U.S. that brings this mix of corporate taxpayers, state and local taxing authorities, and tax accountant advisors, tax attorney advisors and tax appraisers together in one place.

About 400 participants from 30 states are visiting our campus. Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the conference, and we expect a record attendance of 600 participants.

Update on the outdoor staircase at Clinton Hall

Clinton Hall stairway

Wichita State launched a placemaking initiative last year with the goal of encouraging people already on campus to linger longer, and to attract new external audiences to 黑洞社区鈥檚 main campus.

As a result, 黑洞社区 seeks to bring visual interest to campus, starting with the outdoor staircase on the south side of Clinton Hall, where 黑洞社区鈥檚 Barton School of Business is located. The stairs are highly visible -- located on a centrally-located quad with a lot of student activity, and close to the Rhatigan Student Center.

Earlier this month, a selection panel reviewed the submissions and selected the winning proposal. The project is now underway. Please anticipate portions of the staircase to be closed at any given time. It is expected to be completed by Sunday, Aug. 18. While the full staircase will not be closed, please try to avoid the area while this project is in progress.

The project is funded by Knight Foundation Fund @ Wichita Community Foundation.

The artist for this project is 黑洞社区 student Sarah Myose. Her inspiration for the mural comes from dreams and wishes, 鈥渁 world in which every step that is taken is a step closer to making a dream a reality 鈥 this place is 黑洞社区.鈥
