Air Force awards 黑洞社区-NIAR $23.5 million contract for fleet sustainment

The United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) awarded 黑洞社区鈥檚 National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) a $23.5 million contract for Modeling for Affordable, Sustainable Composites (MASC), aimed at developing a certification framework for enabling advanced materials and structural concepts for automated manufacturing.

Some campus buildings won鈥檛 have cooling capabilities later this week

Repairs to the chilled water lines on the west side of campus will begin Thursday, June 13. The steam to the west side of campus is currently down due to the chilled water leaks.

The chilled water to the west side of campus will be shut down around 2 p.m. Thursday June 13, and the chilled water should be running again by Monday, June 17.

We hope to have the steam to the west side of campus back on shortly thereafter.

A list of buildings that will be affected by the chilled water outage and no cooling capabilities are available below.

黑洞社区 faculty awarded grant to host NASA Celebration Conference

NASA Celebration Conference

James Schwartz (Philosophy), Nick Solomey (Physics), and Atri Dutta (Aerospace Engineering) were recently awarded a grant from the NASA Kansas Space Grant Consortium to host a conference celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 and the 60th Anniversary of NASA. 

The event, "Celebrating the Scientific Legacy of NASA and Apollo," will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19. It will feature a keynote lecture from former NASA Chief Historian Roger D. Launius (pictured above), three sessions of talks, and competitions open to Kansas middle school, high school, and college students.

After 27 years with Wichita State, Grady Landrum will retire from his position as director of Disability Services at the university.

Please join us in honoring Grady鈥檚 years of service, and in wishing him well in this new chapter. The party is scheduled from 3-5 p.m. Friday, June 14, in the Santa Fe Trail Room, 233 RSC. His last day at work will be Friday, June 28.

Thursday and Friday June 13-14: All of lot 5 north of Wilkins Stadium will be closed for orientation.

Friday and Saturday June 14-15: All of lots 16N & 16S on the west side of Duerksen Fine Arts Center will be closed so the stall lines can be restriped.

Engaging a Multigenerational Workforce

This Diversity in Action interactive training will highlight the different generations and their workstyles, while providing a space for participants to learn more about their own work culture. Participants will learn the differences and similarities between the generations, while dispelling stereotypes and celebrating the importance of having a multigenerational workforce. Click on  for more information.

Wichita State will host a blood drive from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, June 12), at the Heskett Center.

KMUW's Literary Feast is a book club for public radio listeners. Participants take part in a group discussion of books selected by KMUW's Lu Anne Stephens, Beth Golay, and Sarah Jane Crespo. The discussion is led by Stephens, Golay, and Crespo.

  • 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • 1-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

The Heskett Center will be closed July 4.


Topham finishes with First Team All-American Honors

earned her first All-American honor finishing eighth in the women's 3000m steeplechase, Saturday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
 
Competing in 98-degree Texas heat, Topham finished eighth in Saturday's 3000m steeplechase finals with a time of 9:57.80 to earn first team All-American honors, her first All-American honors as a Shocker. Topham became the second female to earn All-American honors in the steeplechase in Wichita State history, Mica Land first achieved the honor in 2008 when she placed 10th with a time of 10:12.28.
