Khawaja Saeed, associate dean of Graduate Studies in Business and professor, Wichita State University, will visit Wichita State as a dean candidate for the Barton School of Business on Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11 

Faculty and staff are invited to a public forum at 3:30 p.m. (today) Wednesday, April 10, in 204 Clinton Hall. Information is also available on the Academic Affairs website.


黑洞社区 Weekly Briefing to feature Interim President Andy Tompkins

The 黑洞社区 Weekly Briefing will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 11, in the Marcus Welcome Center. The featured speaker will be Interim President Andy Tompkins. Following his remarks, there will be time to ask questions.

Kevin Harrison, community engagement coordinator, Diversity and Community Engagement, will give the overall university update.

The briefing will be livestreamed and available later that day at . There will be time for questions following the briefing.


Opportunity for Quality Matters training on campus

Quality Matters training

Instructional Design and Access is offering 鈥淎pplying the QM Rubric鈥 training from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in 258 RSC. The training cost is sponsored in full by the Office of Online Learning, so there is no cost to participants. This all-day training will introduce participants to the new QM rubric and the fundamental ideas behind creating a Quality Matters course. This is the first training in the Quality Matters sequence, and participants who successfully complete it can move on to the Peer Reviewer course.

Faculty Town Hall meetings set for next week April 15-19

The Faculty Senate recently voted to modify the faculty policies on Chronic Low Performance and Dismissal for Cause - for tenured faculty - to clarify the process and provide definitions of some terms. The intent was not to make substantive changes to the policy. 

This policy will be voted on at the General Faculty meeting at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 29, in 208 Hubbard Hall. Faculty are encouraged to attend town hall meetings to discuss this and other issues before the general meeting on the dates below.

Hippodrome performances start tonight (Wednesday, April 10)

Hippodrome is a skit and variety show competition, featuring the talents of 黑洞社区 students. Performances will begin at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 10) in the CAC Theater. Additional performances will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11, and 3 p.m. Saturday, April 13, also in the CAC Theater.

Skit participants write, direct, choreograph and design all the sets and costumes for their production. Celebrate their work and accomplishments by attending this year鈥檚 performances. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Student Involvement in 216 RSC, or at the door. Click on for more information.


Criminal Justice Career Fair set for April 15

The Criminal Justice Student Association and the School of Criminal Justice present the Criminal Justice Career Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, April 15, on the third floor, RSC.

Free Campus Visitor Guides are available upon request. They are particularly helpful if you鈥檇 like to have a stack of guides to share with students or prospective students.

These guides can be delivered via campus mail or be delivered to your office.

UAS Tech Forum set for Aug. 21-22 in Salina, seeks technology pitch presentations; application deadline is April 12

UAS Tech Forum

The UAS Cluster Initiative鈥檚 UAS Tech Forum is being held in Salina, Kansas, this year on Aug. 21-22. The forum is seeking researchers, businesses, startups and entrepreneurs with advanced technology seeking investor capital, licensing or commercialization agreements to give pitch presentations.  

If you are interested in getting your company and product in front of manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and investors in the unmanned aerial systems industry, quick pitches are the most efficient way. Spots are limited, don't lose yours!

The application deadline is Friday, April 12. Those chosen to present will receive mentoring prior to the pitch session. .

Ulrich Museum of Art to celebrate summer exhibition opening

The Ulrich Museum of Art invites you to participate in the opening celebration of our summer exhibition, Kevin Mullins: Fire in the Paint Locker, a 30-year retrospective of Mullins鈥 work. We encourage 黑洞社区 students, faculty and staff to join members of the community in shared discovery, exchange and delight. The exhibition will be on display Friday, April 12 through Sunday, Aug. 11.

You鈥檙e invited to the Summer Exhibition Opening Party from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 12, in the Ulrich Museum. The reception is free and open to the public.

Kevin Mullins: Fire in the Paint Locker

Kevin Mullins was known for producing compelling, complex, luminous, lyrical surfaces. He was at the height of his career when he passed away suddenly in March of 2018. A celebration of his work and life seems most fitting as his artistic career included 15 years at the Ulrich Museum as Exhibitions Curator. 

The Ulrich Museum of Art is proud to organize a retrospective of Kevin鈥檚 work, opening Friday, April 12. The exhibition, co-curated by Ann Resnick and Dan Rouser, will celebrate 30 years of Kevin鈥檚 work drawn from private and public collections including the Ulrich鈥檚 recent acquisition, God Blind Me, 2017. In addition, the Ulrich is pleased to produce a limited-edition catalogue to accompany the exhibit, featuring essays by David Butler, Elizabeth Dunbar, Bill North, Mike Odom and David Reed.

Please join David Butler for a personal reflection on a work by Mullins that he has owned and enjoyed for many years. He was a friend and colleague of Kevin鈥檚, as former director of the Ulrich Museum of Art.

Butler is currently the executive director of the Knoxville Museum of Art in Tennessee.

Coffee and Conversation April 18, 2019

Come join fellow Shockers in a discussion about this year鈥檚 黑洞社区 Reads book, Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, April 18, on the first floor, RSC. How to stand out in a competitive market with a capability statement

黑洞社区鈥檚 Kansas Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) will conduct a training event in our Wichita, Overland Park, and Topeka locations on Thursday, April 18, to help businesses develop a capability statement. A capability statement can be an important element in marketing and promoting a business, and is essential in government contracting. Think of this statement as a business resume that tells existing and potential customers about the business鈥檚 capabilities and strengths.

Whether a business is currently involved with government contracting or wants to pursue this option as a way to expand their market, valuable information will be gained about the what, why and how of developing a business capability statement.

Applications are open for the 7th Annual Shocker Leadership Awards. The Shocker Leadership Awards are a way to recognize the work of student-led organizations, students, faculty and staff at 黑洞社区. Recognized student organizations, university affiliated student groups and individuals may be nominated by a student, faculty member, staff member, or organization, or may nominate themselves for one of the awards.
