Second business dean candidate to visit campus today (April 1) and April 2

Larisa Genin, associate dean, Faculty, Accreditation and Undergraduate Programs, School of Economics and Business Administration, Saint Mary’s College of California, will visit Wichita State as a dean candidate for the Barton School of Business today (Monday, April 1) and Tuesday, April 2. 

Faculty, staff and students are invited to a public forum at 3:30 p.m. today (Monday, April 1), in 204 Clinton Hall. Information is also available on the Academic Affairs website.


Gartner IT Town Halls coming Wednesday, April 3 for students/ staff / faculty

In early February, the university announced it had engaged with Gartner Consulting to make sure we have the right IT structure and capabilities to help drive the university’s future success.  In that endeavor, we’d like to hear your thoughts. 

On the afternoon of Wednesday April 3, Gartner will hold three IT Town Hall sessions in 208 Hubbard Hall, to engage faculty, staff, and students on the IT services offered on campus, and their connection to the demands of a modern higher education institution. If interested, please plan to attend one of the sessions based on your relationship to the university. All sessions will be held in 208 Hubbard Hall. If you have any questions, reach out to David Miller, university budget director.

Open forum planned for USS and UP staff today (Monday, April 1)

Open Forum April 1, 2019A USS and UP Staff Open Forum Discussion will be held from 2:30-4:30 p.m. today (Monday, April 1) in 233 RSC. The USS and UP Senates invite all USS and UP staff to attend to gather feedback on combining the USS and UP Senates.

The senates have been discussing joining forces to form one representative body with both UP and USS members. Please join us to learn why the senates are addressing this issue and share your input on this important topic.

Seeking Academic Affairs Fellows - letter of interest deadline is today (Monday, April 1)

The Office of Academic Affairs is seeking several faculty or staff members with an interest in gaining administrative experience through leadership of three projects that advance ڶ’s Strategic Plan. These Academic Affairs Fellows will select to work on one of the following three projects: Advancing the use of Open Educational Resources (OER’s) on campus, Developing a Record of Experiential and Applied Learning, and Exploring trends in higher education around curriculum and program development, and student success. 

Project work would begin for summer 2019, with some projects extending into AY 2019-20. The deadline to submit a letter of interest is today (Monday, April 1).

First of three spring sculpture dedications is tomorrow (Tuesday, April 2)

The Celestial Mechanic outdoor sculpture April 2, 2019

The Ulrich Museum of Art will add three sculptures to its renowned Martin H. Bush Outdoor Sculpture Collection in the spring of 2019. A dedication of the “The Celestial Mechanic” by Randy Regier, will be held at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, April 2) on the north lawn of Ahlberg Hall.

The reveal and remarks will be held at 3:30 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. reception on the north lawn of Ahlberg Hall. An artist talk will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Ulrich Museum of Art.

Established in 1972, the Martin H. Bush Outdoor Sculpture Collection, part of the holdings of the Ulrich Museum of Art, is a ڶ treasure recognized nationally and internationally as one of the finest collections of its kind. An integral part of the daily life on campus, it has shaped ڶ’s sense of place for nearly 50 years, offering moments of contemplation, learning, empathy, and joy to countless students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The collection is a source of immense and justified pride for the university, the city of Wichita, the state of Kansas, and the Great Plains region. It is, therefore, deeply exciting that following 10 years of research, fundraising, and planning, the collection will expand to 80 pieces this year, with new works continuing to broaden our understanding of what contemporary public sculpture can offer.

Graduate School - Annual Awards for Academic Year 2019-20

Faculty, please consider nominating a student for next academic year’s financial awards. The nomination deadline is Friday, April 5, and students must be nominated by a graduate faculty member to be considered. The awards are only available for students who will not graduate until fall 2019 or later. Spring and summer 2019 graduates are not eligible for consideration.

  • Tilford Fellowship: To be eligible, a student must be admitted to a graduate degree program in good standing, be enrolled full-time, and demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to minority students who are U.S. citizens.
  • Delano Maggard Jr, Research Grant: To be eligible, a student must be admitted to a graduate degree program in good standing, be enrolled either full-time or part-time, have completed nine graduate credit hours, and demonstrate financial need. This award entails the following additional criteria: (1) student must submit a budget for the research project and (2) if the proposed research involves human or animal subjects, a copy of the approval from the ڶ institutional Review Board or Animal Care and Use committee should be included.
  • Dora Wallace Hodgson Outstanding Graduate Student Award (Masters and Doctoral/PhD): To be eligible, a student must be admitted to a graduate degree program and in good standing.

Monday, April 1 to Friday, April 5 – Parking lots 3N, 3S and 11 between Cessna Stadium and Devlin Hall will be blocked in order to remove some stadium lights.

Tuesday, April 2 – Parking lots 21N and 21W (north of the Marcus Welcome Center) will be blocked off for a ڶ Foundation event until 1:30 p.m.

Tuesday and Wednesday, April 2-3 – Parking lot 2N (on the northwest corner of Koch Arena) will be blocked off in preparation for the KFDI Listener Appreciation concert Wednesday night.

Friday, April 5 – The south part of lot 2W (west side of Koch Arena) will be blocked off for Admission’s Black and Yellow Day event until 3 p.m.

Recognized student organizations, university affiliated student groups and individuals may be nominated by a student, faculty member, staff member, or organization, or may nominate themselves for one of the awards.

If students aren’t sure where their college journey is leading them, encourage them to work on some degree planning and career exploration. If they haven’t completed a Degree Works audit, encourage them to use this tool (found on their myClasses tab in myڶ) to find out where they stand in their degree program. For questions regarding their degree audit, students should contact their academic advisor or advising center.

Students who haven’t yet declared a major can benefit from career exploration to help narrow their focus. For students who are undecided and curious about their major or careers, they should use their faculty and resources available at the .

Opera Theater to present double-bill
