Results of Shock the Future referendum vote to be released tonight

Voting results in Wichita State鈥檚 Shock the Future referendum will be released to the campus community and media at about 6 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 6). Student voting started Monday and will end at 5 p.m. today.

USS and non-teaching UP Employee Signatures for myPerformance evaluations from March 2018 through March 2019 are due tomorrow (Thursday, March 7). Employees should log in to myPerformance in my黑洞社区 to submit electronic signatures by March 7.  For more information (including quick reference guides, training available, and open labs) go to www.wichita.edu/myPerformance.


Seeking Academic Affairs Fellows

The Office of Academic Affairs is seeking several faculty or staff members with an interest in gaining administrative experience through leadership of three projects that advance 黑洞社区鈥檚 Strategic Plan. These Academic Affairs Fellows will select to work on one of the following three projects: Advancing the use of Open Educational Resources (OER鈥檚) on campus, Developing a Record of Experiential and Applied Learning, and Exploring trends in higher education around curriculum and program development, and student success. 

Project work would begin for summer 2019, with some projects extending into AY 2019-20. The deadline to submit a letter of interest is Monday, April 1.

DUO Security will be required beginning tomorrow (Thursday, March 7)

Campus security and data security are a high priority at 黑洞社区. During the past several weeks, ITS has offered a number training classes and informational seminars for various leadership groups across campus to explain the utility, functionality, and benefits of DUO Security 鈥 黑洞社区鈥檚 choice for multifactor authentication (MFA / 2FA). More than 2,500 of you - as faculty, staff or student employees - have signed up.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, March 7, use of DUO Security will be required to access critical data systems at 黑洞社区 by all faculty, staff and student employees. If you have missed previous communications of this, there is information on our website.

Space is available in the Campus Safety: Active Threat Incident Planning training class from 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, in 233 Rhatigan Student Center. Register for this class through myTraining.

Providing a safe and secure environment for the 黑洞社区 community continues to be a top priority. Campus Safety-Active Threat Incident Planning is a live training initiative to enhance 黑洞社区鈥檚 proactive approach to ensure a safe campus environment and to prepare our faculty, staff and students in case of an incident of campus violence. It will focus on two areas: 1) what to do in an active campus threat incident, and 2) how to identify and report behaviors of concern.

Wichita State to hold ribbon cutting for launch of 黑洞社区 Bike Share ICT

You are invited to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the launch of 黑洞社区 Bike Share ICT on the Wichita State campus.

The event is noon-1 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 6) on the northeast side of the Rhatigan Student Center at the bike station. Mayor Jeff Longwell will take part in the ceremony.

Giordano Tierra Chica, visiting candidate for assistant professor position from Temple University, will give a lecture at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 6) in 128 Jabara Hall.

The lecture is titled 鈥淣umerical schemes for mixtures of isotropic and nematic flows with anchoring and stretching effects modeled using a phase field approach.鈥

Student Ambassador Society

Do you know any passionate Wichita State students interested in sharing their Shocker experience with prospective students? If so, invite them to attend the Student Ambassador Society (SAS) Informational Session from 2-6 p.m. Friday, March 22, in 142 Rhatigan Student Center.

Writer, comedian, Internet personality, and 2016 People鈥檚 Choice Award Winner Matt Bellassai will present a comedy show at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, March 7), in Hughes Metropolitan Complex, presented by Student Activities Council.

He is the former writer, producer, and star of BuzzFeed鈥檚 鈥淲hine About It,鈥 a comedic web series that drew a weekly audience of more than 5 million viewers on Facebook. He can currently be found on Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and Facebook in his new video series 鈥淭o Be Honest,鈥 where he shares his hilarious commentary on the struggles of life as a single gay man living a childish life in New York.

Tickets can be purchased for $5 to students with 黑洞社区 ID (limit one per person), $8 to 黑洞社区 faculty and staff with 黑洞社区 ID (limit one per person), and $12 to the general public. All ticket options can be purchased in the Student Involvement Office, Suite 216, Rhatigan Student Center with cash or check only. Seeking participants for a paid study investigating effects of computer monitor resolution on user performance / experience

Computer users, 18 or older, are sought to participate in a research study investigating the effects of computer monitor resolution on user performance and experience. Do you digitally create / edit illustrations, photos, textures or animation?

The study will take place in McKinley Hall, and last about 90 minutes. Participants will earn $25 or six SONA credits if enrolled in a 黑洞社区 psychology course.

All 6th and 7th grade Haysville students will receive college prep services

Haysville Gear Up March 2019

黑洞社区 has been awarded $4.2 million dollars in funding from the U.S. Department of Education to implement GEAR UP in Haysville school district USD 216 through 2025. Every student in 6th and 7th grade will benefit from GEAR UP鈥檚 college prep resources.

The grant will provide Haysville more than $8.4 million over seven years, which includes in-kind funding, in resources annually to devote to college access and success services.

Clarinetist Katsuya Yuasa to present recital on March 7

Clarinetist Katsuya Yuasa March 7, 2019

The Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation and Wichita Mu Phi Epsilon Alumni Chapter present clarinetist Katsuya Yuasa, 2017 Mu Phi Epsilon Concert Artist at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, March 7) in Wiedemann Hall. Yuasa will be accompanied by Bridget Hille. Admission is free, but a $10 donation is suggested. A reception will follow the recital.

Yuasa has performed widely in the U.S. as a soloist and chamber musician. He is a founding member of  Cosmos New Music, which will make its Carnegie Hall debut this summer. In addition to performing and giving master classes, Katsuya maintains an active schedule as a teacher at Florida A&M University and at Florida State University.

Yuasa will present free masterclass at 11 a.m. earlier that day in C116 Duerksen Fine Arts Center.
