In search of ways to save money and generate revenue for university budget

The President's Budget Advisory Committee is looking to gather money-saving and revenue-generating ideas that can positively impact the university's budget. Ideas collected from the form will be assessed by the committee, and the most promising will be publicly posted on a 黑洞社区 Idea Generator blog to seek campus comment and gauge interest. Do you know of an advisor who goes above and beyond for students? The Advising Network (TAN) is proud to support student success by recognizing academic advisors at Wichita State University. Anyone who provides advising services in any role (faculty or staff) is eligible for nomination.

These awards recognize individuals who demonstrate qualities and practices that make significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising at 黑洞社区 and beyond. Nominate an advisor by completing an by April 24.


Nationally known speaker to lead three events at 黑洞社区 this month

Anne Krook to speak at 黑洞社区 March 2019

Anne Krook is a nationally known speaker who helps students transition from the academy (university) to the workplace, using the language that employers expect from applicants.

Krook herself left academia (she was an assistant professor of English at the University of Michigan) to work for a small startup in Seattle 鈥 Amazon (!), where she enjoyed many roles both abroad and in the United States. She then went on to become VP of Operations at another startup, Mindbloom, and then VP of Operations at Synapse.

She now specializes in helping graduate students transition to non-academic workplaces and undergraduate humanities majors translate their skills into jobs. In addition to her consulting work, Krook currently chairs the Board of Directors of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund.

What are the economic, social, and cultural factors that influence how men and women see and treat each other in the workplace? USS and non-teaching UP Employee Signatures for the 2018-19 myPerformance Evaluation (3/1/2018 through 3/1/2019) are due by Thursday, March 7.  Employee signatures will be available as soon as the manager has completed and submitted the manager review step. Employees should log in to myPerformance (in my黑洞社区) to submit electronic signatures by March 7.

MANAGERS 鈥 Due Thursday, March 14:
Manager Signatures
 for myPerformance Evaluations for the 2018-19 myPerformance Evaluation (3/1/2018 through 3/1/2019) are due by Thursday, March 14. The ability to submit manager signatures will be available as soon as the employee has signed and submitted their signature. Managers should log in to myPerformance (in my黑洞社区) to submit electronic signatures by March 14.

for myPerformance Evaluations for the 2019-20 myPerformance Evaluation (3/1/2019 through 3/1/2020) is available now. (To access the current review period鈥檚 evaluations, look for 鈥2019-2020 Annual鈥 in the list of evaluation titles.)  Managers should add expectations for 2019-20 myPerformance Evaluations regarding competencies and goals in myPerformance, then meet with their employees to provide copies and review planning. Planning should be completed by March 31.

Service-Learning Showcase registration open

Service-Learning Showcase April 24, 2019

The Service-Learning Showcase will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, in 233 RSC. It is a unique opportunity for students who participate in service-learning through applied learning opportunities to showcase their experience through a research or reflective poster about the application of their course work to current community issues.

The showcase is an open forum for students to interact with faculty, staff, community partners and other students to engage in conversation about 黑洞社区鈥檚 commitment to the public good. Awards are presented in the following categories: Overall Service-Learning, Community Impact, Innovation and Creativity (i.e., problem solving), and Collaboration/Leadership.

Comedian Matt Bellassai to present show at 黑洞社区

Bellassai writes frequently about pop culture, humor, and the struggles of daily life as a twenty-something man-child. He is the former writer, producer, and star of BuzzFeed鈥檚 鈥淲hine About It,鈥 a comedic web series that drew a weekly audience of more than 5 million viewers on Facebook. He can currently be found on Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and Facebook in his new video series 鈥淭o Be Honest,鈥 where he shares his hilarious commentary on the struggles of life as a single gay man living a childish life in New York.

Tickets can be purchased for $5 to students with 黑洞社区 ID (limit one per person), $8 to 黑洞社区 faculty and staff with 黑洞社区 ID (limit one per person), and $12 to the general public. All ticket options can be purchased in the Student Involvement Office, Suite 216, Rhatigan Student Center with cash or check only. General admission tickets can also be purchased online, via credit card, at 黑洞社区Matt.eventbrite.com*.

Tickets are on sale through 3 p.m. Thursday, March 7. Ticket sales will reopen when doors open at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7. Ulrich Alliance to award two $500 Scholarships this spring 鈥 Deadline: March 8

Ulrich Alliance to award scholarships

Graduate & Undergraduate Scholarships

Based on a portfolio review and a short statement of intent, the Ulrich Museum Alliance will grant a $500 scholarship award to an undergraduate and graduate student currently enrolled in the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries for the spring 2019 semester.

Scholarships will be presented at the Ulrich Summer Exhibition Opening Party on Friday, April 12.

Applications will be accepted via e-mail at ulrichmuseum@gmail.com until 4 p.m. Friday, March 8. Incomplete applications will not be processed for consideration.

Undergraduate Students

Five finalists will be selected for the undergraduate scholarship, and invited to install five works each, for final review, and selection of the award by the Ulrich Alliance. Scholarship finalists will be notified by March 22. The awarded recipient will be contacted by April 5.

Eligibility: Completion of the Foundation Studies Program, and presently enrolled in Mid-Program Review; Junior or Senior standing in the Art, Design and Creative Industries program, and current enrollment in nine or more credit hours.

Graduate Students 

Based on a portfolio review installed at McKnight Project Space or Henrion Hall, and a short artist statement, the Ulrich Museum Alliance (UMA) will grant a $500 scholarship award to a graduate major in the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries for the spring 2019 semester.

Eligibility: Presently enrolled in the MFA program within the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries and current enrollment in nine or more credit hours.

Seeking participants for a paid study investigating effects of computer monitor resolution on user performance / experience

Computer users, 18 or older, are sought to participate in a research study investigating the effects of computer monitor resolution on user performance and experience. Do you digitally create / edit illustrations, photos, textures or animation?

The study will take place in McKinley Hall, and last about 90 minutes. Participants will earn $25 or six SONA credits if enrolled in a 黑洞社区 psychology course.
