Shocktoberfest is a time to celebrate Shocker Pride! Student groups from all over campus will be competing and participating in events like Wu's Birthday Bash, Hunger Games, Dodgeball and Songfest. Departments can join in on the fun by participating in the annual Door Decorating Competition. Winning departments will receive a catered staff party valued at up to $100. Take a step for your safety with the SGA Campus Safety Walk

The SGA Campus Safety Walk is a crucial chance for 黑洞社区 community members to survey the area in and around campus, and express their safety concerns and search for improvements to our campus neighborhood. You're invited to meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in 211 Hubbard Hall.

SGA will provide hot cocoa, food and have a raffle for prizes before and after the walk! Join the 黑洞社区 Police Department and many other campus organizations in the effort to make the 黑洞社区 community a safe place to learn and grow. All are welcome.

Interdisciplinary program fall 2018

In order to advance 黑洞社区's Strategic Plan and SEM plan, President Bardo has announced a competition open to all members of the university community.

The competition is: 

  • For all members of the 黑洞社区 community
  • Open to proposals for new interdisciplinary certificates, minors, honors tracks, undergraduate, mini-master's or master's programs
  • Focused on programs that meet the future needs of students and the community

The authors of the winning proposal will receive a combined cash award of $5,000. There also will be up to five reserved (red sign) parking places made available for the next academic year for use by the authors of the proposal at no charge to them.

Proposals are due Oct. 31.

PeopleAdmin training class scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 17

PeopleAdmin is the applicant tracking system used by 黑洞社区 to collect applications and hire all benefit eligible positions. PeopleAdmin training is scheduled from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17. This hands-on class will prepare admins to navigate through the system to fill positions. If you are a recent hire who has been designated by your department to handle hiring, or a veteran admin in need of a refresher, sign up through myTraining on the Faculty/Staff tab of


2019 Open Enrollment is in progress!

Log in to the  at  to make your elections, even if you don't plan to make any changes from 2018. All benefits-eligible state employees must make their 2019 elections by the deadline on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Those who do not will be defaulted into medical Plan N with a use-it-or-lose-it HRA and all other coverage types waived effective Jan. 1. If you waived all coverage or only had vision or supplemental options in 2018, those elections will carry over into 2019. Otherwise, you must make your 2019 elections during Open Enrollment.

Come for a mental health check-up

National Depression Day

Students, faculty and staff are invited to take a few minutes for a mental health check-up on National Depression Screening Day from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 11) in 261 RSC. Computer feedback will be delivered immediately, and ambassadors from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion will be there as well. There will be a free suspenders T-shirt for those who complete the screen.

鈥楾he Laramie Project' to be shown Thursday, Oct. 11

The Laramie Project Oct. 22, 2018

鈥淭he Laramie Project,鈥 a presentation in recognition of National Coming Out Day and the 20th anniversary of the murder of Matthew Shepard on Oct. 12, 1998, will be shown at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 11) in the CAC Theater. The presentation features performers from Stage9 Productions in Hutchinson. Admission is free.

Shepard was brutally murdered in Laramie, Wyoming. His only crime was who he loved. This event proved instrumental in the development of hate crime laws throughout the United States. 鈥淭he Laramie Project鈥 draws on hundreds of interviews conducted by the theatre company with inhabitants of the town, company members' own journal entries and published news reports.

An invitation to adopt Kanbee's Wichita State art

Anyone is free to grab a piece of Kanbee art on the Wichita State campus.

Last month, Wichita State invited the anonymous artist known as 鈥淜anbee鈥 to display his figures and symbols on the expanded areas of campus, including entrances on 17th Street, 21st Street and Oliver, and at Braeburn Square and near Starbucks.

Now that the exhibit time is finished, the figures are available for adoption. Around 15-20 remain planted at various locations.

Garba Night invitation for Oct. 13

Garba is a traditional Indian dance form performed in the state of Gujarat, India. This dance is performed during the festival of Navratri, a nine-day festival celebrated for praying and thanking the different goddesses in Hindu mythology. This year, from 7-11:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Shirley Beggs Ballroom, third floor, Rhatigan Student Center, AHINSA is organizing a Garba Night to celebrate the festival of Navratri. Admission is free.

鈥淚ntelligent Lives鈥 stars three pioneering young American adults with intellectual disabilities 鈥 Micah, Naieer and Naomie 鈥 who challenge perceptions of intelligence as they navigate high school, college and the workforce.

Wichita State announces on sale dates for downtown game

Men's Basketball at Intrust

Wichita State and Intrust Bank Arena announced ticket prices and on sale dates for the Shockers' annual downtown game against Southern Miss, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15.
 
Wichita State men's basketball season ticket holders will have first opportunity to claim seats during a special presale period, Oct. 15-19. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, with prices starting at just $18.
 
Fans may purchase seats by phone at 855-755-SEAT, online at  or by visiting the Select-A-Seat Box Office at INTRUST Bank Arena.
 
Primary 黑洞社区 season ticket account holders should have received a letter with specific details. In order to protect the integrity of the Shocker Athletics Priority Points System, ticket holders are asked to not share these codes with others.
 
黑洞社区 students will have access to their normal allotment of student tickets. Pickup dates for all 2018-19 home games will be announced later this month.

Emcee tryouts for women's bb Oct. 2018

Hello Shockers,

Shocker Women's Basketball is looking for an energetic, positive and self-motivated Wichita State student to emcee at our women's basketball games this season! This position will assist with in-game promotions, interact with fans and create energy throughout the game. 

The responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to, memorizing a script as well as being able to think quickly on your feet and adapt to new situations while interacting with the crowd. The time commitment for this position is the ability to work all game days, including holidays if needed.
