Making strong connections in person and electronically is key for students

SEM Tip Aug. 20, 2018

It makes sense. If students feel more connected to other students, faculty and staff, they are more likely to continue on their path to graduation. For students who want 鈥 or prefer 鈥 an electronic connection to campus, they can download our app called Guide to their mobile device. This app can help students stay on path by providing individualized guidance on academic success, major and career exploration, holds on their account, payment information, involvement opportunities and more! Students should search 鈥淕uide-College Simplified鈥 in the App Store or on Google Play to access the app.

RH: Seaman coached Shockers during difficult time

Bob Seaman

Bob Seaman, who guided Wichita State's football program through its most difficult period, died Monday at 86.

Seaman moved from offensive coordinator to head coach in 1970 after the plane crash in Colorado that killed head coach Ben Wilson and 30 others, including 14 members of the team.

"He meant so much to our 1970 football team," said John Potts. "He stayed with us even though he could have moved on.  His love and commitment to the 1970 team ran very deep and true.  He mentored and led us through those tragic days and months following the crash. He is the reason so many of us have led successful lives." Read more at .

Tip of the Day Redux: Adding Page Descriptions

NOTE: We're rerunning this Tip of the Day because it is one of the more important and valuable things you can do for your pages in terms of improving Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Back when we began our migration trainings in 2017, one of the components of our DT Migration sessions involved developing page descriptions. The old content management system did not allow for individual pages to carry specific page descriptions. That was a big problem, because Google and other search engines highly value these simple 144-character descriptions of the page content.

Page ParametersAt the time we asked that users build a two-column spreadsheet of their content with the page name in one column and page description in the other. If you've done so, getting your pages ready for Google should be as simple as copying and pasting.

If you don't already have this content developed, don't worry, it's easy to do. Concentrating first on your high-value pages, navigate to the Page Parameters in the Properties section and enter some text describing the content of the page. You can use an  to help you get in under the 144-character limit preferred by Google. This is also a great time to check to make sure the Page Title and Page Heading fields are filled out and accurate.

When you're done,  save and publish the page.
