Ingram's business magazine names Wichita State a top brand in Kansas

For the second year in a row, 黑洞社区 is one of the  as recognized by Ingram鈥檚, a Kansas City business magazine.

Ingram鈥檚 goal is to 鈥渋dentify brands that have carved out national reputations for excellence by drawing on the best of what the Sunflower State offers in its people and its business leaders.鈥

Ingram鈥檚 wrote: 鈥淔or 黑洞社区 - the brand means accessibility - it's the state's only urban university - and it stands for business, thanks in large part to specialty programs that tie directly into the economic strengths of the primary community it serves: Wichita.鈥

Wichita State to hold panel discussion on freedom of expression

Free expression is a fundamental value for an institution such as 黑洞社区, Neal Allen, associate professor of political science, maintains.

鈥淲e owe all of our students, and all Kansas citizens that we serve, our best effort to include all points of view,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 believe that democratic government depends on having both involved citizens and trained professionals.鈥

The open exchange of ideas may not produce a tidy ending.

That exchange, however, is crucial to our nation鈥檚 discourse, no matter how difficult the conversation. 黑洞社区 recognizes the important role universities play and will present a virtual panel on Freedom of Expression from 3-4:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 31.

Survey: Level of interest in Mathematica access

Mathematica is a mathematical computation program used in many scientific, engineering, mathematical, and computing fields. Unlike other systems, Mathematica applies intelligent automation in every part of the system, from algorithm selection to plot layout and user interface design. You get reliable, high-quality results without needing algorithm expertise鈥 even if, as an expert, results are faster.

Wichita State is evaluating and looking into enhancing the Mathematica access for all faculty and students. Please complete the following survey so that interest and need for more access can be evaluated.

UNIVERSITY LIFE

Shockers think 30

Shockers thrive with 30 credits per year

Have you run your degree audit? Do you know how many credits you will complete next year? It鈥檚 a good idea to have a plan to reach graduation, and we want you to think about if and how you can complete 30 credit hours next academic year.

Consider enrolling in a pre-session or summer class to help you reach 30 hours without overwhelming yourself during the fall or spring semesters. It may look something like this:

  • 15 (fall) + 15 (spring) = 30
  • 3 (pre-session) + 12 (fall) + 15 (spring) = 30
  • 12 (fall) + 12 (spring) + 6 (summer) = 30
  • 3 (pre-session) + 12 (fall) + 12 (spring) + 3 (summer) = 30

No matter how you build your 30 hours, you will have the potential to graduate earlier, begin your career sooner and reduce your student loan debt. Talk to your advisor (you can schedule an appointment now) about your options.
