Office of Diversity and Inclusion changes for fall semester
As classes are in a hybrid format for the fall 2020 semester, programs and services are still available for students through the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. While your experience may be different now, we hope you choose to embrace the change and continue to work hard to be successful.
We are currently in phase three of the Shockers United plan at 黑洞社区 and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion is taking many sensible steps as we can protect the health and safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors and our surrounding communities, while continuing to provide value of diversity, equity and inclusion that is part of 黑洞社区's strategic plan.

Ulrich Museum's online exhibition celebrating women artists is excellent resource for teachers and students
If you are looking for an excellent resource, look no further than the Ulrich Museum of Art's online exhibition, "10 X 10: Ten Women / Ten Prints."
The museum is currently hosting the online exhibition on its website in honor of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment, which, on Aug. 26, 1920, gave American women the right to vote. The web-based exhibition showcases a portfolio of the same name, featuring ten prints by 10 different women artists. The portfolio was printed in 1995 by Jos Sances, founder of Alliance Graphics, and published by the Berkeley Art Center to commemorate the 1995 International Women鈥檚 Day and the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the 19th amendment. The portfolio came to the Ulrich as a gift from the 黑洞社区 Center for Women鈥檚 Studies in 1996.
The virtual exhibition is accompanied by curricular content available to college faculty anywhere for use in the classroom, including a writing assignment. Furthermore, participating 黑洞社区 students, who complete the online form, will be entered in to a contest to win a prize. The exhibition will also include links to other resources and events in the Wichita area that celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment.
Twenty-five years later, these prints are still a poignant testament to the experiences and struggles, both public and private, that women continue to face. The 10 featured artists represent the racial and ethnic diversity of the United States, and the prints included in the portfolio tackle a variety of issues relevant to women in American society today.
With this online exhibition, the Ulrich is proud to contribute to the efforts of the national Feminist Art Coalition [https://feministartcoalition.org/], which has united under one umbrella numerous exhibitions of feminist art in U.S. museums in 2020-2021.
This exhibition was curated by Nellie Elliott, the Ulrich鈥檚 2019-20 Mary Joan Waid curatorial intern, with guidance from Ulrich curator Ksenya Gurshtein.

Startup Shiver Solutions is looking for an electrical engineering student. Come join the team!
Shiver Solutions is a startup in early stages developing a device to remove ice from windshields and other applications. The idea of Shiver was first conceptualized for 黑洞社区鈥檚 Invent for the Planet (IFTP) competition. The Shiver team came up with the idea through problem-solving exercises in the IFTP competition. The team then took their idea further by exploring competitions and funding opportunities, such as the Shocker New Venture Competition, E-Launch, Shocker I-Corps Program and the most recent E-Teams summer program from VentureWell.
The team of two graduate students in mechanical engineering, which are the co-founders of Shiver Solutions, is now looking for someone with an electrical engineering background. They are looking for current students from the EE department that have at least 10 hours per week to dedicate to the development of a novel technology in the piezoelectric field. They look for someone proactive, who would be willing to study and develop with them the technology.
If you are looking for a dynamic environment, likes to innovate and have experience on piezoelectric technologies, please reach out to us at shiver.solutions@gmail.com.
