My Life, My Work, My Connections: Creativity, Innovation and Change
Within each of us lies a creative thinker, an innovator, and a change agent. These inner talents often remain untapped because individuals often lack a structure that allows one to navigate a personal journey of discovery.
CI 795, Creative Innovation and Change (offered in fall 2020) is a course that connects understanding the concepts of creativity, innovation and change with work, play, and one鈥檚 life journey. Join us as we tap our creative potential collectively, target ways to apply ideas to innovative targets, and explore what change is, how it works, and how we can play a vital role as a change agent in the making.

Participants wanted for a study on self-advocacy
I hope to learn whether students who participate in college TRIO programs at 黑洞社区 are more likely to self-advocate than their non-TRIO participating peers.
You can complete a questionnaire called the College Student Mentoring Survey (CSMS), which will ask questions related to your mentoring experiences at 黑洞社区 and the General Self-Efficacy Scale, which will be used to examine your self-decision making. The questionnaires will take between 20-35 minutes.
If you are interested in a follow-up for advocacy scenarios, you will be able to continue the survey and respond to the scenarios; otherwise, at the end of the questionnaire when it asks if you would like to complete the scenarios, you may select 鈥渘o.鈥 The scenarios will take between 5-10 minutes and will consist of problem-based scenarios where you will be asked to create a solution to the problem.
To be eligible to participate:
Must have a fluent understanding of English
Must be an undergraduate at 黑洞社区
Contact: If you are interested in participating in this study or have any concerns, contact Mercedes Lubbers at mercedes.lubbers@wichita.edu or my faculty advisor, Mara Alagic, at mara.alagic@wichita.edu.

I started a new job ... and a pandemic hit
The two most repeated phrases I鈥檝e heard over the first several weeks of my internship are, 鈥淭he office is not usually like this,鈥 and, 鈥淵ou picked quite the week to start your job.鈥
I heard it so many times, it became a formal greeting:
鈥淗i Lainie, how are you?鈥 鈥淚鈥檓 good. The office is usually not like this!鈥
I started my internship with Strategic Communications at 黑洞社区 on March 9, when COVID-19 was an epidemic. By the end of the week, it had turned into a full-blown pandemic.
In the midst of it I, Matthew Ferguson, was just trying to start a job.
RH: Shockers adapt to pandemic in many ways
Wichita State senior Madison Perrigan lives on five acres of wooded farmland near Guthrie, Okla. In these times, she lives on five acres that can also be an indoor/outdoor gymnasium.
Perrigan, a catcher on the softball team, plays catch with her sister outside. She hits into inside her father's metal shop building when it rains. She runs outside for cardio work to keep pace with pitcher Erin McDonald.
"I have a lot of tools," Perrigan said. "A bucket of balls. All my softball equipment. My sister sits the ball on a tee for me. My dad is making a net right so she can throw soft-toss to me."
Perrigan, like most Wichita State coaches and student-athletes, is challenged by the circumstances to find new ways of staying active and passing time during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some are limited to their backyards or basement weight benches. Others use a nearby park or track
Maddie's 411 on all the virtual possibilities while social distancing
The days of social distancing continue and have left many of us feeling, well, a little bummed out and stir-crazy. Though we have started back to school and are keeping active working from home, it's easy to fall into a rut. While our spring breaks weren't spent relaxing under the warm sun or skiing down the slopes, luckily, there's more than one way to enjoy the vacation that never happened. Instead of trying Maddie's 10 tips, broaden your horizons with some virtual tours.
"Walk" through some of the most famous cultural institutions, like The Louvre and Museum of Natural History, then go on a virtual vacation and "ooh" and "aw" over popular tourist destinations. And regardless of your age, enjoy some live footage of animals playing at the zoo!

This week we will be watching 鈥淏ig Fat Liar.鈥
Who's afraid of the big bad Wolf? Not Jason Shepherd (Frankie Muniz), who has to prove that sleazy Hollywood producer Marty Wolf (Paul Giamatti) stole his class paper and turned it into a blockbuster hit movie, "Big Fat Liar." Traveling to Los Angeles with his best friend Kaylee (Amanda Bynes), Jason tries to break into show business -- literally. Through a hilarious series of pranks and ruses, Jason brings one of Hollywood's most powerful producers to his knees.
