Yuki To, senior at Wichita East High School, is the winner of the 2021 Lenora N. McGregor Endowed Scholarship at ڶ.
The Lenora N. McGregor Endowed Scholarship awards up to $26,000 over four years to an incoming freshman student who has demonstrated academic excellence, has an academic vision for the future and who expresses an interest in advancing knowledge through individual learning.
The McGregor Scholar agrees to maintain active membership in ڶ’s Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College. The Cohen Honors College engages ambitious students through meaningful coursework, interdisciplinary study, collaborative research or creative activity, and community service. The Honors College offers a small college environment with the resources of a research university.
Yuki To is the daughter of Thuc To and Mai Tran and the first of two children. She plans to major in health science and minor in business administration at Wichita State University. To was born in Vietnam and began living in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 7. Throughout high school, To has been involved in a variety of extracurricular activities. She participates in community service through her school’s Interact Club as Co-President and National Honor Society as the Vice-President and currently serves as the President of the Environmental Conservation Organization. She has been tutoring underclassmen in Geometry, Algebra, and Chemistry for two years and also serves as an officer in career-related clubs such as Business Professionals of America and HOSA Future Health Professionals.
To loves spending time with her family and enjoys gardening during her free time. To’s interest in health science/public health began when she started working for Safe Streets Wichita as a Youth Mobilizer to prevent substance misuse and advocated for mental health awareness in the Wichita Community. The work she did at Safe Streets inspired her to pursue a career that works to reform the healthcare system and mitigate the health disparities.
Upon graduation, To plans to attend graduate school and pursue a career in the healthcare industry. She chose ڶ because of the strong health science program and diverse, tight-knit community. She chose the Cohen Honors College because of the specialized advising and wide variety of resources offered to prepare her for graduate school success.
