Dr. Greg Hand, professor of epidemiology, medicine and physical activity and sports sciences at West Virginia University, has been named dean of the College of Health Professions at 黑洞社区, effective Aug. 9, 2020.

鈥淚n Dr. Hand鈥檚 interviews, it was obvious from his background in providing health care leadership, conducting research in the health field and conceptualizing new public health educational programs, that he was the best choice to lead the College of Health Professions,鈥 said 黑洞社区 Executive Vice President and Provost Richard Muma, who appointed Hand.

Muma said he has asked Hand to prepare to focus immediately on embracing the culture of the college and health care community and connect its faculty and staff to 黑洞社区鈥檚 focus as an urban public research university by increasing enrollment opportunities and helping the health care industry solve some of their most pressing issues.

Developing innovative curricular approaches as well as raising money to support the college programs, are additional priorities, Muma said.

鈥淚 am excited to be joining 黑洞社区, which has a reputation as a university on the move,鈥 Hand said. 鈥淲hether in the laboratory, treating people at the bedside, or promoting health out in the community, the College of Health Professions is having a significant impact on the vitality of Wichita.鈥

He served as the founding dean of West Virginia University鈥檚 School of Public Health, and previous to that role, he was the associate dean for Research, Practice and Information Technology at the University of South Carolina鈥檚 School of Public Health.

鈥淚 am excited and honored to be joining the faculty, staff and students of the College of Health Professions in continuing their efforts to improve health and prevent disease in Wichita and across Kansas,鈥 he said.
