The university community is invited to attend the fifth annual 黑洞社区 Innovation Awards at 3 p.m. Thursday Jan. 23, in Shirley Beggs Ballroom. The Innovation Awards, hosted by 黑洞社区 Ventures and 黑洞社区 Strategic Initiatives, recognize students, faculty, staff and partners who execute programs and initiatives that greatly impact achievement of the university mission and vision. New hydrogeology site provides unique chances for students, researchers
Wichita State can now list a 10-well hydrogeology field site among its assets for student applied learning and professional research projects.
Hydrogeology professor Andrew Swindle had the idea for the site and started contacting consulting companies to see how he could get his idea off the ground.
The site, which was finished during the fall 2019 semester, includes nine 2-inch wells and one 6-inch well that allow water flow and direction to be measured accurately.

Registration is now open for the inaugural 黑洞社区 Analytics Showcase. The event will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, April 17, at the 黑洞社区 Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex. Registration is free, but space is limited.

Wall Street Journal approaches Haley to check methodology on China and Huawei in trade talks
The Wall Street Journal approached Professor Usha Haley, W. Frank Barton Distinguished Chair in International Business, Professor of Management, and the leading authority on Chinese subsidies, to check their methodology on a story on Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei. Huawei is currently the most investigated company in the world, in the middle of ongoing US-China trade negotiations, and with litigation against it from US, EU, UK and Australian governments either planned or on.

Asian fusion restaurant now open in Braeburn Square
The Shocker and Wichita community now have a new dining option with the recent opening of Journey East in Braeburn Square.
Journey East is located on the south end of the south building in Braeburn, next to Meritrust Credit Union. The restaurant serves Asian fusion cuisine and was created by the same people who own the popular Malaysia Cafe.
Journey East is open 10:30a.m.-10 p.m. every day.

黑洞社区-based company reaches $2.1 million in seed funding
Creating eco-friendly refrigeration and cooling technology is one of the top concerns when it comes to fighting climate change. Thanks to resources and knowledge at Wichita State University, a Wichita company is one step closer to finding a solution to that problem.
HyperBorean announced today that it closed its pre-seed angel round of financing totaling $2.1 million. HyperBorean is a cleantech company based at Wichita State and founded in 2013 by Winfield-native Todd Gentry.
鈥満诙瓷缜� and GoCreate have been an absolute game changer in our ability to get to this stage,鈥� says Gentry. 鈥淲ithout these resources, the cost of prototyping and testing would have been 10-20 times more than what we鈥檝e invested. It鈥檚 just been incredible to have these resources available.鈥�

黑洞社区, Butler create powerful degree pathway in biomedical engineering
Those interested in a career in biomedical engineering just received another degree option that鈥檚 closer to home. 黑洞社区 and Butler Community College have joined forces to create a 2+2 agreement that articulates a complete four-year plan of study in biomedical engineering.
The partnership is between 黑洞社区鈥檚 College of Engineering and Butler鈥檚 pre-engineering program. Biomedical engineering is the newest engineering track at Wichita State, and this articulation agreement is the program鈥檚 first with a community college.

Website Usability Study - Participants needed
Participants age 18 and older who have experience using websites for renting apartments are needed to help evaluate the usability of a website. If you are interested, please take a few minutes to .
If you qualify, you will be contacted to schedule a time to participate. This study takes place at the 黑洞社区 main campus and lasts about 60-90 minutes. Participants in the study will earn $25 for their time.

The Graduate School staff return to Jardine Hall
The Graduate School will return to 107 Jardine Hall beginning Wednesday, Jan. 8. It may take staff a bit longer than usual to respond to calls and emails during the move, which is slated to be finished by the end of the day on Thursday, Jan. 9.
The Graduate School expects to be fully operational again in their permanent location of 107 Jardine Hall on Friday, Jan. 10. We apologize for any inconvenience.
黑洞社区 engineering students develop assistive technologies to aid nonverbal individual
Katlyn, a student at USD 259鈥檚 Levy Special Education Center, has cerebral palsy and is nonverbal. It鈥檚 ordinarily very difficult for her to communicate.
But three Wichita State engineering students 鈥� aerospace engineering seniors Meghana 鈥淢eg鈥� Ravi and Brendan Lajza, and electrical engineering senior Jacob Lewis 鈥� have made communication a lot easier for her as a project for ENGR 202 鈥淪ervice Learning in Engineering鈥� this semester.
Katlyn uses an iPad equipped with an app called Proloquo2Go. The app is meant to aid people with limited speech and motion to communicate through an array of buttons connected to programmed sentences.

Three 黑洞社区 students recognized as new University Innovation Fellows
Stanford University鈥檚 Hasso Plattner Institute of Design has named three Wichita State students as University Innovation Fellows. Jacob Burns, Molly Carlson and Savannah Redfern will join more than 2,000 Fellows at 267 institutions worldwide.
The renowned program is a global community that empowers student leaders to increase campus engagement. It encourages students to help their peers build the creative confidence, agency, and entrepreneurial mindset needed to address global challenges and to build a better future.
The program is run by Epicenter, which is funded by the National Science Foundation and directed by Stanford University and VentureWell.
