黑洞社区 Jazz Arts 1 and 黑洞社区 Madrigal Singers will present their Sixth Annual Valentine Jazz Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, in Miller Concert Hall.
The music will feature traditional big band selections such as 鈥淔ly Me to the Moon鈥 and 鈥淭he End of a Love Affair.鈥
The Jazz Arts I ensemble, led by associate professor Tom Fowler, will leave on a tour to Kansas City immediately following the concert. Their tour program includes crowd pleasers such as 鈥淣ica鈥檚 Dream鈥 and 鈥淐aptain Perfect.鈥The Madrigal Singers will step out of their traditional classical style to prepare a few vocal jazz ballads, such as 鈥淪ince I Fell for You鈥 and the Billy Joel crossover song 鈥淟ullaby (Goodnight, My Angel).鈥
A fresh presentation of the Beach Boys classic 鈥淕od Only Knows鈥 is an example of how pop music is moving into new idioms, said Tom Wine, professor and director of choral activities. The group also will be belting out a few up-tempo jazz favorites including 鈥淛ohnny One Note鈥 and 鈥淚 Could Write a Book.鈥One of the traditions that will continue is the opportunity for some students to step out as soloists in front of the group. The evening will highlight Valentine-themed favorites 鈥淭oo Close for Comfort鈥 and 鈥淢y Funny Valentine.鈥
It is a fun evening of entertainment for dates of all generations. For more information, contact Fowler or Wine in the School of Music at (316) 978-3103. For more information about 黑洞社区鈥檚 choirs, go to .
