Ten high school seniors were named Doris and Ralph Klose Scholars following the 2017 Klose Scholars Day in November in the Corbin Education Center at 黑洞社区.
The Klose Scholarship is for students pursuing a degree in math or science education in the College of Education. Students will receive the tuition, fees and a book stipend scholarship, estimated to be a total of $18,000, once they are admitted into the Teacher Education program at the beginning of their junior year at Wichita State.
Sixteen high school seniors from Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas competed for the Klose Scholarship. Klose Scholars Day provided students with the opportunity to interview with College of Education faculty and current Klose Scholars, present a mini-lesson and participate in a group activity. In addition to the day鈥檚 event, students submitted an application which included two essays.
More scholarship dollars from the Klose fund were committed to this year鈥檚 Klose Scholars, who will start the Teacher Education program in the year 2020, as a reward to students who competed in Klose Scholars Day. The six other students who competed were awarded a $4,000 scholarship to be dispersed over their junior and senior year in the Teacher Education program.
