Excitement is building in the Elliott School of Communication (ESC) at 黑洞社区 as students prepare for its annual Communication Week 2017 Wednesday Oct. 18-Friday Oct. 20.
Comm Week offers events covering a variety of enrichment opportunities to students enrolled in any ESC classes.
Activities include a keynote presentation by Southwest Airlines Senior Communication Adviser and speech writer Chris Mainz and sessions on current topics include filmmaking, fake news, personal branding and more.
The Elliott School will honor and hear from this year鈥檚 Outstanding Alumni, Don and Lynn Kincheloe Stephan, and One to Watch, Courtney Bengtson.
Stephan and Kincheloe Stephan are both graduates of 黑洞社区. Stephan graduated in 1959 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in journalism. Kincheloe Stephan graduated in 1964 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in education and a master鈥檚 in liberal studies in 1992 They are the owners of the long-time Wichita advertising agency, Stephan Advertising.
Bengston, the director of strategic initiatives for the Wichita Community Foundation (WCF), integrates and connects strategy, funding and initiative opportunities in support of WCF鈥檚 mission. She joined the foundation in September 2013 as its first communications manager.
Her past experience includes time at Bothner and Bradley Inc., and the 黑洞社区 Foundation. Bengston graduated in December 2013 with her master鈥檚 degree in communication and in 2011 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in journalism from Wichita State.
Comm Week ends with a 鈥淲alking Tour de Comm鈥 in Old Town including Bother & Bradley PR, Digital Brand, Sullivan Higdon & Sink and The Wichita Eagle. Students who sign up for this event will catch a trolley at 黑洞社区 and travel to Old Town, where they will have the opportunity to tour various communication-centric businesses. Students will also share a food-truck lunch provided by ESC.
