Energy-efficient LED lighting to be installed in Charles Koch Arena

Work will begin soon to replace the lighting in Charles Koch Arena at 黑洞社区. The existing metal halide lamps will be replaced with quick-start, energy-efficient LED lamps.

The life of the fixtures will be much greater, and they will significantly save on energy. It is estimated that the payback will be less than 12 years.

A&H Electric, Wichita, is the low bid contractor for the project. The contract completion date is Sept. 15.

The cost of the lamp replacement is $410,769. The rewiring was an alternate bid of $31,500 for a total cost of $442,269. The project was funded from the Physical Plant budget.

The project will also take the opportunity to replace 61-year-old wiring for future reliability and to construct a truss system that will allow the court lighting to be lowered, allowing convenient lamp replacement.
