Expanding Your Horizons conference explores STEM careers for girls

 

黑洞社区 will host the fourth annual Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) conference, giving 200 middle school girls the opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers.

The Nov. 5 event will include hands-on activities and a chance to meet role models in the science disciplines. The purpose is to inspire girls from all backgrounds to recognize their potential and pursue these opportunities.

Registration is limited to 200 participants and is available on a first-come, first-served bases through Tuesday, Oct. 25. Registration costs $12, which includes lunch at Shocker Hall, a t-shirt and a bag for each student.

The event will begin with a keynote address by Olivia Pavco-Giaccia, award-winning children鈥檚 book author, whose focus on the synergies between science, entrepreneurship and girl-centric activism has impacted both local and national dialogues. Families are welcome to attend the opening ceremony and can stay to attend sessions on financing college, college expectations and the process of applying to colleges.
