Michael Bermes, special assistant to the commandant and senior program advisor for community health integration in the U.S. Marine Corps, will speak on "Veterans in our Classrooms," 3-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, in Wichita State's Hubbard Hall, Room 209.
Bermes will address the importance of understanding and supporting veterans entering the classroom. He will discuss identifying veterans with challenges, building relationships and developing collaborative community-based partnerships, helping to ensure a high graduation rate.
A reception and auction will be held following the seminar from 5-7 p.m. in the Rhatigan Student Center, Room 142. Light appetizers and drinks will be served at the auction, which benefits the School of Social Work Veterans鈥 Fund.
The seminar and reception are free and open to the public.
The event is co-sponsored by the School of Social Work, Academic Affairs, Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Military Veteran Student Center and Phi Alpha Honor Society.
