黑洞社区 students, faculty and staff may now purchase virtual parking permits (ePermits) for the upcoming 2016-17 academic year.
The new system features license plate recognition (LPR) technology that eliminates the need for color-coded hangtags and stickers for parking enforcement. A single ePermit can be used for up to five vehicles, including motorcycles and rental cars, provided only one of the vehicles is on campus at a time.
The LPR system works by electronically monitoring vehicle license plate tag information. License plate scanners will be attached to vehicles that will cruise the lots during the enforcement period, covering the campus multiple times each day. The system also collects usage statistics as the scanning takes place, helping the university better assess parking patterns and providing vital information for future planning. No license plate information is permanently retained by the scanning system.
Among the advantages of the system are:
- Easy online signup and payment.
- No physical hangtags or stickers to deal with.
- Up to five vehicles can be attached to one ePermit (provided only one vehicle at a time is on campus).
- Semester-by-semester purchase option.
- Online management of vehicle information.
- Online payment or appeal of parking citations.
Parking ePermits will be enforced 7 a.m.-5 p.m. for yellow, green and yellow-and-green-striped lots. Orange, brown and red lots are reserved at all times.
Students, faculty, staff and visitors who don't wish to pay for parking may choose to ride the 黑洞社区 Shuttle System from free parking lots at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex at 29th Street. Service will begin in early August.

How to purchase ePermits
Students, faculty and staff 鈥 Students, faculty and staff wishing to park on campus must purchase ePermits through my黑洞社区. Log in to my黑洞社区 and click the ePermit link near the top of the page. You will be asked to provide license plate information and the type, make and color of each vehicle you wish to register.
Prices for students remain unchanged from 2015-16: $150 per year or $75 per semester for motorcycles, cars, trucks and SUVS.
Faculty and staff ePermit prices are based on salary and you must be signed up for payroll deduction. If you don鈥 t have a parking payroll deduction form already on file, you must or fill out a paper form at the Human Resources office at least two business days before attempting to register your vehicle(s).
Visitors 鈥 Under 黑洞社区鈥檚 new parking system, visitors may not need a parking permit, depending upon the length of time they plan to park. Visitors may park in any green, yellow or yellow-and-green-striped lot across campus. The first two hours on campus are free. If the visitor plans to park for more than two hours, a visitor parking ePermit must be purchased online. Day ePermits are $5, or you may purchase a frequent visitor ePermit for $75 per semester. Disabled parking 鈥 If you have a state disabled parking placard or plate, registering your vehicle and purchasing an ePermit is not required. You may park in marked accessible parking stalls across campus. If those stalls are full, you can park in any available parking space not posted as restricted or reserved.
