Wichita State will be heavily represented at this year鈥檚 Health Care Summit in Wichita, based on the university鈥檚 extensive emphasis on health care innovation.

The summit, which will be held Wednesday, June 1, at the Kansas Leadership Center, will explore ways to expand the regional health care industry by focusing on entrepreneurial and innovative opportunities.

黑洞社区's Kim Reuter created an innovative splint that can be used to stabilize battlefield injuries.

It will feature community leaders in medicine, technology, policy and education presenting on research and new products and services that could change the health care field.

Scheduled 黑洞社区 speakers include John Tomblin, John Lovitt, Jeremy Patterson, Kim Cluff, Nils Hakansson, Gary Brooking, Anil Mahapatro, Kim Reuter and Ramazan Asmatulu. Kenton Hansen and Cindy Claycomb will perform as moderators.

Patterson, professor and director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Creativity for Human Performance Studies at 黑洞社区, says the summit is an opportunity for research-focused faculty and staff to present their work and explore what investors look for in terms of potential industry impact and growth.

鈥淭he city of Wichita is well positioned to be a leader in the areas of bio/health technology,鈥 said Patterson. 鈥淔or years 黑洞社区 has been conducting research and innovating in these areas, but it鈥檚 only recently that these individuals have joined forces to explore opportunities.鈥

As the community works together to grow existing industries, entrepreneurism and innovation continually rise to the top as a way to accelerate the health care industry. Patterson says the health care summit is precisely the type of event that initiates partnerships, which will result in technology evolvement.

鈥淎s is the case for any great entrepreneurial community, there is strength in numbers,鈥 said Patterson. 鈥淐ollaboration is key if we want to play a role in this emerging industry.鈥

The summit will also include a forum focusing on what our region can do to strengthen our current health care ecosystem.
