Dawn Gorans never planned to attend college, but when the opportunity arose to attend 黑洞社区 on a full ride scholarship, it was too good to pass up.
A veteran of the Air Force, Gorans began working in accounting at Scholfield Honda in Wichita after leaving McConnell Air Force Base.
After 13 years there, she realized it was not what she wanted to make a career out of.
鈥淚 was tired of accounting and I wanted something different,鈥 said Gorans.
Though her initial plan of working in medical laboratory sciences didn鈥檛 work out, Gorans will graduate in May with a degree in health services management.
Using this degree, she will pursue a job working at the Department of Veteran鈥檚 Affairs.
鈥淚 want to give back to my fellow veterans,鈥 said Gorans. 鈥淚 just enjoy working with them. I know there鈥檚 a lot of things that need improving at the VA, and I want to be a part of making that happen.鈥
Determination
Gorans wants to work for the VA in a management position, but is prepared to work her way up using the same determination she applied to get through school.
鈥淚鈥檓 confident that I鈥檒l be able to prove to them that I can get things done,鈥 she said.
The opportunity to return to school involved a lot of hard work, but it has given Gorans the chance to pursue what she wants most.
鈥淓verything is so crazy right now,鈥 said Gorans. 鈥淎ll these doors are opening from every different angle, I鈥檓 not even sure which one to turn to.鈥
Gorans dedicates her graduation to her two children, and says she looks forward to spending more time with them once she receives her diploma.
